So now that Colgan pilots are not ALPA...in the event the company is consolidated are Colgan pilots going to be the lucky recipients of a wonderful staple job?

The Pinnacle MEC sent us a letter saying that a staple job was not going to happen...but...considering recent events, I wouldn't be surprised. I just hope that in the event of a merger, there will be BIG, LONG fences keeping the jets and props apart.

bill lumberg has already handed over the red swingline

Funny you mention that. It goes back pretty far. Even if they went date of hire for colgan pilots they would be junior. Once again. Thanks colgan 155

Great recruiting tactic ALPA has.... Vote in ALPA or we staple your A$$....

1. ALPA doesn't have a good track record of forcing management to merge lists in the first place...

2. Ever heard of ALG/Mohawk? Probably wouldn't be a staple anyway..

3. ALPA carriers try to staple their fellow ALPA members when there is a merger.... Look at USAir and NWA, among others..... Your fellow ALPA "brothers" will try to staple anyone... ALPA or not.... The USAir pilots are threatening to leave ALPA because they couldn't staple the America West pilots... anyone see the irony here?

Not to get off topic, but the USAir pilots are threatening to leave because all of their furloughees are being stapled. Then the Mid Atlantic pilots are being stapled below that. Not the other way around.

I thought that only applied to two represented groups--a non-union shop has no "career expectations" to protect.

Read that again Colganites, you have no career expectations to protect without a union.

Oh yeah, you're just going to get your time and go to Delta/United/FedEx. Whatever.

A union shop has no "career expectations" to protect either. The only "expectation" any person can have about any career is that they will be paid for the work they have already done. The idea that "When-I-was-hired-I-expected-to-be-a-747-Captain-when-I-retired-so-therefore-I-am-owed-that" is ridiculous.

ALPA hasn't said anything about a staple to this point. Besides, this isn't a recruiting effort now, Joe. The organizing drive is over. The 155 screwed everyone over. So, no one is saying "vote for ALPA or get stapled."

1. ALPA doesn't have a good track record of forcing management to merge lists in the first place...

Did you miss Freedom/Mesa a few years ago? They achieved it through negotiations and also got a favorable ruling on a single-carrier petition from the NMB. Those are two avenues available to ALPA in this case also.

2. Ever heard of ALG/Mohawk? Probably wouldn't be a staple anyway..

Allegheny-Mohawk LPPs don't apply in this situation. They are only applied when the acquired carrier has a CBA that requires them. With the elimination of the CAB during deregulating, the LPPs ceased to exist unless specifically called for in a CBA.

First, AAA didn't try to staple anyone. They wanted DOH, which is a very legitimate method of seniority integration. Second, even if an ALPA pilot group tries to staple a fellow ALPA pilot group, they won't be successful because it wouldn't fit within the confines of ALPA merger policy. That's the whole point here, Joe: the CJC pilots have zero protection. Merger policy would have protected them with ALPA representation, but now they have nothing.

Would ALPA really be out of line if it negotiated a merger of lists and a staple. The pilots of Pinnacle pay dues for ALPA representation and I suspect they want the best representation possible. I'd say a staple is in the best interest of Pinnacle pilots. Maybe Colgan should hire someone to represent them. You wouldn't go to court without a lawyer would you? This is the exact same situation.

I don't think the PCL pilots want to harm the Colgan pilots in any way, despite the stupidity of the 155. Keep in mind though the PCL pilots are NOT going to take hits to protect the Colgan pilots. The Colgan pilots had thier chance.... When PCL management starts making changes, the PCL pilots will be at the table representing the PCL pilots.

The Colgan pilots will get directive memo's.

Sad but absolutely true for CJC pilots.

Thanks Colgan 155

I know the USAir guys are upset, but that deal was not a merger! America West bought them.

There was no cash transaction for USAirways east- it was a merger of two weak, single coast companies to create a nationwide carrier. Nobody bought anybody, the two airlines just combined.

From Section 45: Merger and Fragmentation Policy of the ALPA Administrative Manual

E. NON-ALPA OR UNORGANIZED AIRLINES
SOURCE - Board 1986; AMENDED - Executive Board May 1998

When the circumstances surrounding a merger preclude adherence to ALPA Merger Policy, i.e., where a non-ALPA or unorganized pilot group is involved, reasonable steps shall be taken by the President to seek acceptance of a procedure that will enable the parties to proceed to a fair and equitable resolution in a timely and expeditious manner.

The Colgan 155 should be partying their brains out. After all they are saving 2% of their paycheck every month so they can afford and deserve to party their brains out to tell alpa to get bent.

Also your new name is Right Said Fred. You were not right about ALPA and SkyWest/Colgan pilots are simply too sexy for ALPA

Hey newman, guess what. You can still eat me.

I prefer syrup

That is the last thing I will ever say to you.

Pennekamp was right about the USAir/AWA situation..... I was typing too fast again....

My point was that it is naive to believe that once you join the ALPA "club", that we will all take care of each other. Many ALPA/ALPA mergers have been very ugly. The USAir/AWA merger and the NWA/Republic merger are just two examples.

There is very little "brotherhood" when it comes to seniority issues..... whether or not you are a member of the "club".....
