Here's an interesting tidbit I just learned. TPG is the parent company of Indigo, the parent company of Spirit Airlines. Odd that NWA would partner with the parent company if their biggest rival in DTW. Even more odd that this happens a week after Spirit announces the closure of its DTW base and the desire to refocus its strength in the Latin market. Preemptive move to satisfy antitrust concerns?

Your right...My bad.. .No airlines have ever merged with different fleet types.. What the hell was I thinking... And there is no demand for leased 319's either.. Boeing would froth at the mouth to get rid of those 319's and build a bunch of 737's to replace them. F9 was an all boeing fleet just several years ago... AAI relys on ATL too much and F9 relys on DEN too much... Imagine what the 2 company's combined route structure would look like.. The only better match for AAI would be Alaska. And that aint' happening..

This whole thing is just an ego problem for joey. He doesn't seem to care about much else.
 
Midwest and NWA are the number 1 and 2 airline at MKE. I really don't think the people of Milwaukee believe its in their best interest that these two companies merge. Service will diminish allbeit they're already "codesharing". But the one question still remains, whoever comes out the winner here, what will be of the fresh-baked chocolate chip cookie???

We're talking about Wisconsin here. Nice, traditional values where it's not considered rude to root for the home team.

Keeping MEH owned "locally" is a point of pride with these folks, and that's what matters to them.

Even NWA is a better alternative than AAI, because, after all, Minnesota is right next door.

When I lived in Minnie, I found that people there thought that the South was like "The Dukes of Hazard". They didn't want ANYTHING to do with it.

based on yesterday's closing price TPG still has a better offer than AAI. AAI's deal is only worth $15.95/share as of yesterday. the rednecks can have their "general lee"s, just remember that general sherman will wake up from his grave and burn atlanta to savannah down again if you tick him off enough.

I don't understand the point of this. If Air Tran wants to grow, then grow. Get some airplanes and start service to new cities. Why would you force a merger on someone who doesn't want it? Do they really think that is good for business?

On the other hand, if it is something that Midwest stockholders want, then why is their management fighting it?

its simple really. have you ever had something you did not want to give up but was pressured to do so by your parents, friends, etc? same thing here on both sides.

Obviously JL does...

The man's smart about business, no two ways about it. I don't like the move, but I'm not an MBA graduate with airline management experience and a proven track record for profitability in the worst of times.

If he says it's worth it, I gotta believe the man.

Our contract is another issue... That's management trying to get the best value out of US, and up to US to get the best working conditions possible without "breaking the bank".

Because their senior management has NOWHERE to go where they will make anywhere NEAR what they're making now.

They're protecting their jobs, and I personally expect the Midwest Board to say "No" to JL based on the closing price of the AAI combined with the cash to still be lower than TPG/NWA's all-cash offer while secretly loving the idea of remaining in control with their salary/benefit package.

I believe this saga will continue to run for a bit, and if NWA gets MEH, you can bet on initial small growth through RJ's, then some draconian rules put on MEH's operation as to not threaten NWA, a few tweaks here and there operationally to start showing some profit (fuel sharing is going to be a nice savings to their bottom line in lower fuel costs), then IPO it later down the road, but guaranteeing MEH doesn't grow much bigger than they currently are now and guaranteeing MEH can't compete on any of their prime routes.

Been there, seen that, have the t-shirt.
 
Airtran was going to get 80 737-700s in 5 years. There is no more growth opportunity in ATL, since the gates are full. They need to put those new airplanes somewhere. They tried DFW, and that didn't work. There is room in MCO I guess, but they haven't announced anything big there yet. I do see a lot of new LAS redeyes planned (ROC--LAS is one of them I believe). They have to do something with the new planes, and MKE could take some right away, after getting rid of the MD82s and MD88s.

GL.... Aren't they still building a new terminal in ATL?? I thought they were building a new International Terminal and another one between 10-28 and 9R-27L.... You know, fix the delays with a new runway then add more flights until ATL is just as backed up as before.... Friggen people can just leave something alone when they get it right, have to go break it again..
 
The New International terminal will only have about 10 gates. it is mainly going to be for passenger pick up and drop off. The south terminal is only a dream right now. City Of Atlanta has not funded it.

They stopped the building I think when DL went into BK. I don't know if they have started building it again. I know they are building a large INTL terminal east of the new Tower. I don't know about a new Airtran terminal, and when it would be finished.

Midwest guys and gals. Ask your self, does NWA want Midwest to expand, stay as they are or shrink? Then ask yourself are you happy with “as you are”? I believe "as you are" will be the out come if NWA wins the bid. They are not in this to grow another airline but to protect theirs. Airtran wants to grow the airline. I think Midwest is the first step in a much larger plan that would benefit everyone. Good luck and I hope the best for everyone.

thanks for the support. like any other large organization there are those who want the air tran deal and those who want tpg and the status quo. a lot of the folks are wary of NWA's involvement also. frankly all of us simply want a conclusion.

the proposed growth, before NWA was in the picture, is not something that should concern NWA. 8 aircraft is nothing to their domestic concerns. 20+ from AAI immediately is. i doubt they will limit this "growth" on our part if the tpg deal goes through.

make no mistake though, a lot of pride here. if AAI gets us, that energy would go into making AAI very successful in MKE and vice versa with TPG.

FIREMAN, what people like you don't understand (and Im not trying to make this sound negative towards you or anybody else) is that AirTran isn't going to expand Midwest....its going to expand AirTran. We don't want to fly for AirTran, we want to stay as Midwest. That is a huge reason why everybody favor's the TPG proposal cause we would stay Midwest. Now are there going to be changes? Im sure there will be but not nearly as dramatic as people think they will. Midwest is peanuts to NWA so all this talk about within 2 years Midwest will be gone or just a bunch of RJ's is complete bull. This is nothing more to AirTran than attempt to get another hub, period. They could care less about the city of Milwaukee and the people here know that. We at Midwest do not want that at all. I too hope this works out in everybody's favor.
