4 years without a contract...Why can't ASA pilots strike?
It's the only way to get management to listen.
Before a strike, the RLA requires a 30 day cooling off period, usually accompanied by super-mediated negotiations. Once the 30 days comes and goes, if no agreement has been reached, either party may take action against the other. The union may strike, the company can lock out their employees. The NMB refuses to release us into the 30 day cooling off perion, thus draaaaaaging out the negotiation process. They are seemingly so anti-labor friendly they see fit to only schedule us for 1 or 2 days of negotiations every two or three months! Hard to get an agreement done that way.
Hope you see the picture.
As long as Bush is President, there will be no release. Remember that the President is the one who appoints the mediators. They are all anti labor, so the Union will never get the upper hand.
Wrong.
Strikes:
2006 - Petroleum Helicopters (PHI Inc)
2006 - World Airways
2005 - Polar Air Cargo
2005 -Northwest Airlines (mechanics)
2001 - Comair
All of those happened under Bush.
Um.....in case you haven't been paying attention, pilots don't get to just decide to strike. They are governed by the Railway Labor Act, and Federal Mediators (NMB) decide when and if a union can strike. While we at ASA think you have a great idea there, our hands are tied by the process.
I don't know about you, but I enjoyed a tax savings starting in 2002 by removing the marriage penalty. I also enjoyed a savings by the lowering of all tax rates. If you guys think GW's tax cuts actually reach to our levels, you've been sniffing the Jet-A. Those tax cuts go to the Jonathan Orensteins and Paul Foleys of the world, not us. And BTW, they're laughing their a** off at us, because WE'RE paying for THEIR tax cut.
Enjoy.
OH , I forgot to add, yes there will be releases, but only when the company has enough scabs to replace you. Why don't you do a google check and see how well those NW mechs are doing right now.
I just read a comment Warren Buffet made how he paid 17% in taxes (on $46,000,000) while his secretary who made 65k paid almost 30%.
INote also that no one "pays" for a tax cut
But pilots can decide to semi-strike and get this thing done.!
Just wait until the evening of Aug 31st if nothing is accomplished from the 4 days. Pilots have had enough, and ASA will experience the ghosts of '98!
ASA has over 900 flights a day, you tell me?

But pilots can decide to semi-strike and get this thing done. With all of the jobs available right now, I don't understand why this pilot group will not rock the boat! Jerry and Bryan are loving this group; all bark and no bite. Until something is done on the line, nothing is going to happen in negotiations. What incentive does management have to settle? Absolutely none!
What i think....I think Chautauqua will take pilots off the US Air system and use them to fly for Delta. Maybe Mesa will do the same. Either way unless our Union "S" protect us all, we are doomed!
Your kids will considering the inability of the government (all branches, all parties) to only spend the money they actually have instead of turning a record surplus into a record deficit. The bill's gonna come due eventually.
