Frontier, JetBlue, Spirit and World Airways have also been granted operating rights.

The four South Pacific nations and the United States are signatories to the Multilateral Agreement on the Liberalization of International Air Transportation.

In May, Delta Air Lines was the first US carrier granted approval to operate to Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands and New Zealand. "

I don't think it's anything special, but good rumor..

I think it was a blanket clearance to allow any airline that wants to go there the ability to. I just don't see Frontier or Jetblue going to Auckland any time soon.

Hawaiian has flown to many of these places in the past and currently serves PPG... There are government issues with serving APW though. They want Hawaiian to pay a $3 million fee to get in there. I hope they do start serving APW again though its a pain to get there for us... My in-laws are there and we always have to stop in PPG then take a Twin Otter to APW...

We sent some reps down to Apia a few years ago, and was anticipating us begining service there after Polynesian turned in thier 737-800 and suspended it's APW-HNL-APW flight.
But just as suspected they tried to gouge us and ignore the traveling public that would benefit.
We will just have to wait and see if they come down on thier demands.

Nothing wrong with the 'ole Twin Otter, Aloha Flyer.

I did that run for a year and a half and loved it. Of course, now that they've closed Fagali'i, I can see where it would be a pain, since you'd have to go into Faleolo anyway. But hey, you could always RON in PPG before going on! Let's see...there's CC's, Tisas's...
