"Why don't we just close this thread right here?"

Because some dumb arse will mention how SWA pilots fly 23 1/2 legs per and the entire company has hangar parties in LBB every night. Bitter little boys need to play there games. Then the swa crew will come on here swinging.

And you and SWA/FO are the same

Nope, the SWA/FO = the SWA/FO nobody else. Try again, golden shower-boy.

Does anyone really believe the legacies are out of the woods? A quick trip through CH 11 and good as new? Riiiiight.

It's ok, they have assigned seating. That'll take care of everything.

They're "taking it all back......"

I'm still a little confused as to what Heavy does at his current job. Does he just manage the Jet? Does he fly the Jet? Or does he manage and fly the jet? I must have missed it the first 30 times he told us about his job. By the way, what did he use to fly?

To each their own. It all depends on what is most important to you. To some it is the exotic destinations, long flights, long layovers, etc.. Others would rather go to work, get it done as quickly as possible, and go home to the family. After awhile all the hotels are the same. It's somewhere to waste time until you can get back to work.

How long is an average trip at SWA? (2-day, 3-day, 4-day) How about at Delta?

There is no right or wrong to this. It all depends on preference.

"And I love the part when you say "I pollute FI"----huh? I deliver the TRUTH. People need to know what they could have at your company, and then make an informed decision. We all say the pay is great and the stews are fun, but then we add that there are multiple leg days that will continue forever, with quick turns that may exhaust people eventually. You will also only fly one type (unless you can show me a new order), and that can get boring. You also may hit LBB, MAF, and AMA, which is the truth----it changes from base to base (my buddy who is MDW based just went to LBB for the first time last month and got sick on a quesadilla from the hotel restaurant, and the management didn't care he said). 5 or 6 legs a day can be exhausting, and there is less of that at a legacy. People need to know the pros and cons, and they have already been laid out for legacies, and now I will do it for SW. If you want to refute any of the above that I have stated, go ahead."

What a discovery you have made General - people only get food poisoning in LBB! You would think that half of Texas was in a third world nation. But you won't have to worry about that - be careful in Lagos!

And thank you so very much for educating future SWA pilots about the real Southwest Airlines. All these words of wisdom from a self-procaimed SWA expert who happens to be a Delta pilot. Please take your altruistic reasons elsewhere as they are merely a thin veil to slam SWA.

While a choice of aircraft is certainly nice - is it that choice that is special to you? Or is your own self worth directly proportional to the size of your aircraft. In the auto world that is called a p---s extension.

Really general, even if you flew five legs a day, is it truly that exhausting? We only work twelve days a month. This really is a part time job...

I got food poisioning in ATL more often than any other city in the world.

...My balls are bigger than your balls...

Hmm, Mega - isn't that, sort of, impossible?

;)

Thanks for all of the kind words..... Anyway, I am allowed to give my opinion on anything on this board, and I am concentrating right now on the pros and cons of SWA. I always list the pros (great pay, nice stews, descent management for now etc), and then I list some things that I wouldn't want to do, and others may agree. When choosing an airline, one must think of all of the pros and cons, and even flying to Lagos on Delta is a consideration (although I am way too senior to do that, thanks). If I were looking at an airline to try to interview at, I would look at bases, pay, types of aircraft so I don't get bored, and options of different types of flying (so again, I don't get bored). If you want to be a pilot and have a side business, then maybe Southwest is for you, since you only have to do intial training once and recurrent would be fairly easy and you could concentrate on your side business more. You might be really bored and exhausted at work, but atleast you could go home and work every other spare minute at your Subway franchise with those two hot college girls you hired. Don't forget to order the cheese and bake the bread! What could be a better work week? A 16 leg 3 day worth 24 hours (or 24 trips), followed by baking bread with a couple of hot co-eds at 5 am getting ready for a fairly busy lunch period. Sounds awesome.

Or, you could fly INTL (or domestic if you want) trips for Delta and see the world while eating first class meals and watching a movie each way, and maybe even bump up two or three trips in a row (no 30 in 7 rule for INTL) and have the rest of the month off. So many options. The pay is not bad, and will be getting better, thanks to Southwest raising fares today $10 each way. Muchas Gracias.

So, who are flying the 15 daily flights into each city? Somebody is, and they are hating it. I do know what I am talking about. Refute that. Who are flying the 40 or 45 flights a day into all 3 of those cities? I'm waiting.......your regional affiliate? Would you like me to list each flight from each city for you?

GL you keep braggin on the intl stuff, but

I would imagine the vast majority of new hires at DAL will be on the MD or the 73
- How much international do those guys ever do?
- When will a new hire ever see those CAPT pay rates?

I'll fly those trips every day for what SWA pays (not to mention the enjoyment of working for a great company that values employees). When I want to go intl with my wife, I'll just use my 16-17 days off a month and all that coin I'm making to buy a ticket on my airline of choice.

Well, we are expanding so much in the INTL arena that there were over 50 767ER FO slots unfilled in NYC, and six were unfilled in ATL. (One reason cold be seat holds for other equipment, 2 years, did not allow some current pilots to bid that equipment) We have bids now about once a month, so many newhires on the MD88 or 738 have bid over to INTL on the 767 because there is no initial seat hold for newhires. We also just had 4 newhires get the 767 domestic right off the bat. That has never happened before. Things are moving again, and as I said newhires who didn't get the 767 domestic initially can wait about a month and get trained on their first equipment, get a bid on the INTL 767 or domestic 767, and then get trained on that within 6 months I would bet. It is all about options, and if they want 767 INTL flying soon, they can have it. If they want to bid back to domestic 767, there is a 9 month hold on the INTL side. Not too bad.

As far as Captain positions, it will take awhile, since MD88 Captain in NYC or ATL is currently at about 9 years. Rumors abound that new planes are coming, and coming soon, are out there, and they will be confirmed or denied soon. We parked a lot of planes in the past few years, but that has stopped, and 2300 captains left. Now any new planes coming will add seats on both sides.

Great advice. Don't bother dealing with balance sheets, debt, financial health or management. Did you live through the same post 9-11 airline world that I did?

Yeah, yeah, I know, you don't care where you fly, blah blah blah... You would care if you were at Delta--there is great variety and you might actually smile as you approach the gate when you see your destination. As far as your pay, it is great, thanks to our old pay rate. Without it, you would have not even come close, and that really is a fact. We will try to climb back up there too, and we hope you keep the rates that we helped you establish. Don't forget that.

Absolutely. And both SWA and DL now have great balance sheets. We cleaned ours up in BK, and that has affected our pay too. We are now on the way back up, and if we are profitable (a good chance now that SWA likes to add $10 to fares) we will get up to a 6% raise each year, with a pre-tax profit. We are waiting for better times, and they are on the way. In the meantime, we are growing again, and we have opportunities for greatness, as long as management steers us right. It can only get better after getting rid of our last management. Please remember that we shed $13 billion in debt and restuctured leases for huge savings, while cutting employee costs too. Did you read anything about that in the papers? Too busy doing 25 minute turns in an orange 737?

On my previous post, I should have stated that IF I were at SWA... I would gladly fly those LBB and AMA trips for what they pay.
