As far as a place to stay. They will contact you and ask if you are willing to have your name and number distributed to the others in the class.

I got together with 2 other people and we rented a 3-bedroom house fairly close to the schoolhouse. I believe the site was vacationrentals.com. I think each of us paid around 800 for 6 weeks of training. The rates listed on the website are higher than that but some of them will deal with you - especially for a solid 6 week rental. It was sure nice having your own bedroom in a nicely furnished house rather than a hotel room or a crash pad.

Still waiting to hear (they said the 9th) and I was wondering when do you find out what base you get? I really want LAS...I would commute to FL if I had to for a while, but I have no intention of moving there. Heard LAS is jr. right now, but I was hoping for a little more insight. Thanks

Should be able to get LAS right out of training I've heard. I'm just the opposite of you. Hoping for SFB right away.

With 3 new bases opening up and newhires filling in, it should be no problem to get whichever base you want. Captain upgrades should be coming from both LAS and SFB.

I was in the April class and we found out our base in the middle/end of May, it all depends when the base bids are done. I know they need a couple pilots in SFB right now. Out of my class we had 4 get Vegas, 2 Laughlin, 2 or 3 PIE and 3 or 4 SFB. They changed someones base in the SIM portion. Have fun, study hard!

I know the Laughlin pilots fly primarily charters. How does the schedule differ between the Laughlin and non-Laughlin pilots? Do the Laughlin guys do RONs or are they home in bed every night too?

Also, if you are awarded Laughlin and you don't want to be there, how long would you likely stay before you could bid away from that base? You can't beat those 118 degree days in Laughlin! At least you can jump into the river to cool off......

The Laughlin Schedules are awesome for FOs. They average 18-21 days off a month, but you rarely go over guarantee and they are alot longer days then the scheduled side. It is fun flying with heavy crews and double crews flying all over the country. Its like you are given the keys to an MD80 and you get to go fly around, no managment, no Feds, etc. It was the most fun flying I have ever had. You are back in base everynight and if you wanted to live in Laughlin it would be ideal. It is good for commuters because you usually see 4-5 on followed by 7 off. The biggest drawback (and why it goes junior) is the 90 minute drive from Vegas, and with the high gas prices its costing guys a few hundy a month in gas. If you are junior assigned Laughlin out of class, you could get to the base of your choice whenever another class goes through.
