Looks like someone was up pretty late last night to get these pictures of the first 787 on it's gear headed to the paint shop at PAE.

That is sweet! It looks like a 757 on steroids.
I wonder why it was not designed with winglets?

When a wing is designed correctly it does not need winglets. They are used on wings that where designed before the advent of computer modeling and so forth.
Really?? Then why do most new clean sheet designed business aircraft have winglets?

The 777 was the first to be completely designed on computer. That is why it does not have nor need winglets.
PS, he's a little touchy about anything that might, just slightly, imply that his Gulfstream isn't the the top of the heap. :bomb:
Be careful there dude, if the Gulfstream test pilot that used to post here is still around, he'll tear your head off for that statement. Search back a year or so for winglet threads. He claims that the GV wing was designed with winglets and that it's stuff don't stink.

What a POS. It'll never fly. Book it!
Seriously?
Thats the 787 not MMA.
Well now that it's out of the hangar, we'll have to see if it will provide what they promised in terms of performance...

Man O Man is she Pretty!!![]()
Wow, I did not know my statements would cause such a tizzy. Its like I kicked someone's dog or something.
Anyways, its what i heard from an Embraer engineer when asked about winglets on the E145 XR and why some planes need them and others don't. Basically, he said they were used to make up for inefficiencies in the design of the wing.
Sounds about right for the E145, how could a bunch of naked pigmeys design a good wing? I heard the first draft for the 145's wing was Bamboo and dried fig leaves.
