Rumor around Piedmont is the union has blocked the $5000 hiring bonus. Seems the senior guys are a little upset at all that cash being tossed around to these 200 hour FNGs. Hang on boys. This ship is going down. Fast.

I agree that there should not be a bonus.
If there is it should go to all not just the 250hr newbies.

Haven't heard that one yet. I'll have to do some more checking.

Besides not sure the Union has any say in the matter. Seems to me the company could give a bonus to anyone they desire. You know the company has offered to pay for dispatcher training for anyone that would sign a 2 year commitment. I don't see much difference.

I have heard many of the 2-3 year F/O's complaining about the bonus for new hires & 1st CQ, yet nothing for the "seasoned" F/O's to keep them around.

if they dont get fo's here there will be not upgrades, so I say do what ever it takes to get people here.

i was talking to our captain rep and he said that they could fight it, but they would never win. a lawyer said that it is against the conract, but it's the their money and they can do whatever they want with it. but we should get more than just $200 for not calling in sick, they've been working the hell out of us!! the demoralization plan is working pretty well at pdt.... the people in sby should keep up the good work! oh and by the way, shouldn't someone lose their job for not having the airline staffed properly and subsequently losing flying including parking 2 airplanes?!?

That's correct: There's no real way to block it. If it were an actual hourly pay increase, that would be outside our CBA and the other pilots would be entitled to it. This is a BONUS. No way to fight it. Then again, why would you?

The union has the right and obligation to negotiate and enforce compensation for the pilot group. They were working on a way to incorporate the bonus into that.

It is very true that the FOs who have been around a while are seriously PO'ed about the bonus. Me included.

I would be too! With the bonus money (which is nice), it means a first year FO is making more then a 2nd year FO!!!! Hell ya, I would be pissed!!!! Hence all the 2nd year FO's are bailing the hell out!!!

Well, if a bonus means it will help the senior guys (CA and FO) ensure they have a job flying planes in the near future, then perhaps it is actually in their best interest.

Don't think that's the case with this bonus. It doesn't fix the problem of the airline having no foreseeable future.

Ah- I meant why just block it? I understand yer pernts, D. I don't give a rat's arse if it took 30 grand to get these kids in- it doesn't fix the problem I have. They CAN'T FLY. Period. If we were paying out money and attracting folks with experience of some appreciable measure, I'd feel safe on a DH to PHL. But face it- freshly graduating from Embry Ridiculous without an hour of actual or real instruction... let alone getting the valued experience of saying, "oh, shyt" when you're all by yourself... leaves the airline with a crop of incapable newhires. It's true. So five grand is one thing; how about five grand AND some legit mins?

It's just the sign of the times.....hell how many people out there are crazy enough to go out and blow 60k or more in education to even go work for the crumby pay that a regional starts off with!! And if they are enrolled in Riddle they probably leave school with twice that amount in debt.......Bottom line young folks aren't interested anymore in the profession once they get informed about it.....Hell in aother 24 months other regional are probably going to be throwing 8k, 10k or more to get the bodies in those right seat.

I hear ya Sig.

Problem is there isn't much experience out there willing to fly a turboprop when they could go to a jet operator making more money (second year), quicker upgrade, better base options, etc.

PDT sucks, and there is no interest from the higher ups in making it better, which will attract and retain more talent.

True! So they really better study the FO rates on the 70 seaters!!!
