Haha at first i didn't really look at the plane to see it was AA. I thought it was a Honduran airline or something. Man that is impressive lol. That is amazing that they can get that thing out of there.

What's the big deal at Charlie West?
 
Back in 1999 I was standing on the ramp in Teguce waiting for my pax to show up when an American B757 showed up landing from the opposite end of the runway. The terrain on the the other end of the runway will cause a powerful down draft when the wind hits it just right. The B757 got sucked down and touched down about a 1000' short of the runway, bounced back up, plowed thru the fence and dropped back on the runway where the crew got it under control and came to a stop on the runway.

The fence had ripped 100' long holes in the fuselage. It took a couple of weeks for AA mechanics to patch the holes enough so that the airplane could be ferried unpressurized back to DFW.

This is the airport that made me quit 135 charter.

On July 9, 1999, an American Airlines 757 struck the airport boundary fence at Tegucigalpa, Honduras while landing on runway 19. There were no injuries and minor damage to the airplane.
 
Looks like he landed short of the runway on the threshold.

It looks like that's what you need to do to be able to stop. Please if you ever fly down there, or Guatemala city do me a favor and stay on the glideslope all the way down the runway. Then call me and let me know if you stopped before the end of the runway.
 
It was kind of a joke. Charlie West is one of those places that makes landing interesting. Definitely not anything close to that place, though.

If you are talking about VOR/DME 19 at Guatemala City then yeah been there - done that AND on GS. Not a problem.
