What's the best Logbook Software

Hmmm. I thought I saw a thread around here that spells out how to print out on regular paper. I'll have to look some more. Certainly a valid gripe though.
To charge a buck a sheet makes that product a bit proud. That would be one hella expensive logbook.
Also, if the owner is still part of this site (Is he? I thought he parted ways a while ago when the site was trimmed nose down? I got lost in that confusion.) maybe he can comment?

LBP prints great on regular paper. It wouldn't print correctly on their fancy paper made for their fancy logbook, which they claimed no responsibility for... OK...

Oh, and the software they sell or partner with for use on a palm pilot, waste of time, it locked up, coulnd't figure out what time it was, overcredited, undercredited, etc, a real nightmare.

I would stick with an excel spreadsheet if your looking for economical and functional, it can also be downloaded later to a logbook of choice.

Currently I use the little red book, get a whole year per book. Cost=FREE from union.

I've been wanting to convert to a computer logbook also. However, I'm not sure that any product sold today will be compatible with computer operating systems of 15-20 years from now. Would logbook software from 15 years ago be compatible with MS Vista today? I doubt it. Then you're SOL with all that work you put into it.

A better idea would be a web-based logbook. Then the information is remotely stored, and the server could adapt the information and format as computer technology evolves. Don't know if this already exists, but it would be a great business idea. I'd do it myself if I knew anything about computer programming.

I have been a Logbook Pro user for years and love it. I also have not experienced the problems that some of you have. If you are having printing problem I believe they now offer printing and data entry services.

I have found their tech support to be responsive and on target when I needed them to be. I also use APDL that was written Paul Auman at Auman software. I can't wait to see a new version of APDL. Hopefully, Paul is working one.

I have heard rumors of version 2 for LBP. Can anyone confirm this?

I know for a fact that LBP is able to import from Excel. I used to use import my Jeppesen Mentor logbook. I exported Jeppesen to Excel and then into LBP..No problem and it only took about 10 minutes to do. Log Book Pro tech support will even do it for you, if you are a registered user.

Safelog has a nice format, is super user friendly and looks great on the screen... but the printing options are ridiculous. If this software could print with more flexability then it would be a great program...but there is no flexibility with moving cells around and absolutely no way to squeeze in any remarks. You can't even change the size of the font so as to squeeze in more for the remarks. One size font is all you get. I was absolutely amazed at how limited this software is when it comes to printing it out. The software is so user freindly and seems all well and good until you try to print it out....which is usually after you have spent countless hours inputing all your flight hours. Their help desk response is also a total joke...they say that there are not really any complaints but if you have a problem with the print out try exporting it into Excell so you can print it out the way you want. Yeah right...I tried that too and the export did not even include my remarks...What a joke! No wonder on their free demo they don't allow you to print. Don't be fooled...until this company deals with flexible print options this software is only going to waste your time. I'm writing this not to diss the company, but for two reasons: 1. to save any future pilots the frustration and $$$ and 2. hopefully to get Dauntless' attention that they need to deal with this limitation and fix it. If this software could print with more flexability then it would be a great program. Lets hope they step up.

Hi!

To pring LogBookPro and save money, take it to Kinko's and have them print it on good paper. Buy a binder yourself. It looks nice and costs a lot less than doing it with LBPro.

I posted a thread about problems I had printing and how to do it correctly on flightinfo. Now that I know how to do it, it's easy.

When you go to interviews are you supposed to also bring your original logbook or just your electronic logbook (printed version)?

Also, how does an electronic logbook work when you go to get a new certificate or rating? Obviously examiners usually just make their endorsements in your airline training records, but Im sure it is possible for people to still do things outside of the airline environment. How does this work with something like Logbook Pro?

I personally would bring both to an interview if it is your first 121 job. They may want to check the endorsements. After that the electronic ones should be OK IMHO.

I personally never bring my logs to SIM training. If you want just get a copy of your airline record to stick in the back of the book. I know at my previous employers I always got a copy of the report that was being put in my records.

Another vote here for LogbookPro and printing from .pdf at Kinko's. It make take the genius at the counter a few tries to get it right, but you can print it just like a Jepp Logbook.
Save the odd pages and even pages separately and use the "shuffle" feature on their printing options.
