NJA Captains do your F'ing job and take care of your FO's

How can it be that in the last 2 months I have flown with 4 FO's that have all been here around 10-11 months and I am hearing the following from them all:

1. I have never once been through the fatigue process. We have had some long days but my captains (intentionally not capitalized) say that the company is keeping track of grievance calls.

2. I did not know that you could order more than 3 meals in a day.

3. I have had to stay in plenty of smoking rooms. My captains said that if we moved to another hotel we would not get our rest adjusted.

4. I never heard of getting the 10 hours rest adjusted upon arrival at the hotel.

5. No idea what FRDA or RAATS stand for.

6. My other captains have never told me what is MEL'd on the plane, I don't even know where to look.

There are others. I know, I know, they should know their contract, etc. But they are still looking up to the Captain in many cases for guidance as they try to adjust to the NJA way.

Number 1 simply blows me away. How the hell can someone be here for nearly a year and not have had their captain call in fatigued for the crew? This is nuts as we all know what an average tour is like. A note from GH comes out nearly every month telling you to use your fatigue policy the way it was intended to be used and you still can't muster up the courage? Should I assume that I am just working that much harder and that is why I have legitimately fatigued nearly once per tour?

And don't attempt to justify it by saying you are saving the FO's job because he/she is on probation. If you are fatigued and you don't get some rest the outcome could be much worse. This company isn't going to terminate a probationary pilot for a legitimate fatigue call or moving from unsat/unsafe accommodations.

How about posting this in our crew room lounge where actual pilots that work for NJ can answer?

Of course most of what your upset at is easily looked up in the contract and on the union website.

I'm not going to answer and start any speculation on something I don't know the other side of the story to.

I am the FIRST Captain in 11 months who took the time to show them? WTFO?

I think this pretty much sums up the mentality at Netjets.

You may have misunderstood. I am not implying that this be done just for the sake of time off. What I intended is that there is no way an FO could go 11 months and maybe 25 tours without being in a fatigue situation. This is where a Captain should step up and do the right thing.

I think there is a learning curve. I have been online for over a yr and had one fatigue call. Oddly enough, was in IOE with an A-teamer.

I still cant find the "screen readers" when I call the company number. I do agree, that the FOs should be briefed on what is MELd. This log book that we use is a joke. Having to call a chief pilot to write something up is a joke. But if we learn a little each week, from different captains, we will do just fine.
 
I agree with keeping this stuff on the union board, but while I'm here...
He's right. 3rd year now and I notice what he's saying. It seems that the older guys look at someone who wants to call fatigue is some sort of pu$$y. I do not give a flying fu-- how you did it in the X. Flying tired is stupid, PERIOD. And for gosh sakes, quit telling me that I am trying to ground planes when I am DOING MY JOB by bringing discrepancies to your attention.
The rest will find its way on the union boards...if anybody ever goes in there anymore.
 
3 F calls in one tour.

I really hate the X.

PS in the last 3 months over 95 Percent of the pilots checked the union messageboard.

In one month over 60 percent check it.

What a bunch of crap, quit crying. If you have something to say to your FO's, say it. If you have something to say to the rest of us, say it on the Union board. What do you see happening for the good here?????
 
Remember we're a crew. If you as a new FO is feeling fatigued, then you have the RIGHT to call fatigued. Do not be intimidated by your CPT or by the mothership.

I hope they are tracking F bombs, because then it may help with their tracking of the matrix.

All I can say is that during a 7 day tour with my F/O (or fellow PIC), where I'm from and what hobbies I'm into are about the last thing we end up talking about.

All of the above is taken care of. We talk about history, we talk about what it means to be part of a Union, we file grievances, we write things up, we get fed, we get adequate rest, we move to a suitable hotel AND get rest adjusted AND get OT if over 12 hours of duty while doing it...

we do our jobs.

Any F/O that doesn't know the contract after 1.5 years here isn't trying. Pick up the darned CBA and read it. That's why we printed it in english.

Now, Captains not acting like Captains... that is an entirely different subject.

And as for people not checking the official message board because it contains too much "bitching". Paleeease. Who's the pu$$y? Your dues money pays for that message board. Anyone who doesn't check that board regularly is both throwing away their dues money AND missing out on information that WILL cost them money on the road.

How bout that for reality??

Reading that message board (and thus seeing how the contract is applied) made me over $800 extra a few tours ago by exercising my rights in the contract. I can't afford not to read the board and learn from it!

Roger THAT!! Another satisfied customer! Making money takes effort and knowledge and a week of work here is like an easter egg hunt. You MUST know where they hide the money to make it.

I've been flying fractional for 5 years. Never called in fatigue, and trust me, I've had my share of 14 hour days and 16 hour days. What you are really saying is that,with all your experiences at netjets ,no one goes that long without calling in fatigued. I mean, you actually say that no one goes 11 months without doing it. To me, that's pathetic. I thought you guys had it easy at netjets? That's all you talk about is how good it is over there; are you now saying that they work everyone so hard that fatigue is a problem across the board? Cry me a river.
