I heard that when LCC hires baggage handlers in PHL the crime rate goes way down too!

Some US Airways Passengers' Baggage Delayed For As Long As A Week

PHILADELPHIA -- Some US Airways passengers who flew through Philadelphia during last week's nasty winter storm still didn't have their luggage by Tuesday, an apparent step back for a company battling persistent baggage complaints.

"It's been a nightmare," said Joe McLean, a 56-year-old advertising salesman from Springfield whose Valentine's Day flight from Philadelphia to Los Angeles was canceled. "They told me it's been located at some airport and they're sending it back, but I've been waiting for days."
McLean's flight was supposed to leave at 9:30 a.m. last Wednesday, but the plane wasn't boarded until 7:30 p.m. The flight ended up being canceled shortly after, and McLean said he had to stand in line for 2 1/2 hours to file a lost baggage claim.
"By the time they get around to delivering to me, it could be Christmas," McLean said.
US Airways, which has its largest hub in Charlotte, N.C., canceled 670 flights into and out of Philadelphia as a major winter storm hit the Northeast last week. Thousands of bags were separated from their owners.
The airline first promised that all bags would be delivered by Monday, but that didn't happen.
On Tuesday morning, at least 200 bags were still lined up in the baggage claim area at Philadelphia International Airport. The company said it expected all remaining bags to go out for delivery by the end of the day.
US Airways has been trying to improve its baggage handling after a meltdown about two years ago. Over three days in December 2004, the airline had to cancel hundreds of flights and thousands of pieces of luggage were stranded in Philadelphia after scores of flight attendants and baggage handlers called in sick.
Last year, the Tempe, Ariz.-based airline was ranked 13th among the largest airlines for the rate at which it mishandled its passengers bags, according to a U.S. Department of Transportation report. The company just pumped $20 million in upgrades for its Philadelphia airport facilities, including new baggage-handling equipment.
Phil Gee, a spokesman for the airline, said the majority of the bags lost last week were delivered within two days and those that took longer were an "anomaly."
Kathy Pulver has spent six days waiting, calling and driving back and forth to the airport from her home in Medford, N.J., to try to track down her suitcase.
"Everyone has been very, very polite, but no suitcase," said the 54-year-old consultant. "I'm going to go back (to the airport) today with my claim filled out and look again. Hopefully, I'll find the bag."

It happens....when a lot of flights are cancelled the bags get lumped together and sorted through. The problem is that no one understands what it takes to reroute one out of 600 bags...plus its PHL :)

Well they staaarted iiit!:D

Yep, they made the headlines again!!!!

Philly will get US Airways China flight

STEVE HARRISON
[email protected]
US Airways will announce this afternoon that its proposed China route will be from Philadelphia to Shanghai.

The airline is petitioning the U.S. Department of Transportation for the right to fly to China. Other airlines are competing as well. US Airways doesn't have any flights now to Asia and it doesn't have a plane that could fly that far.

US Airways has been negotiating with Air Canada to buy at least two Airbus A340-500 aircraft for the China route. If approved, that route would begin in a year.

Wow, PHL WILL GET the USAir China route......in which year? Very unlikely, just like I said for the USAir merger with DL, for 2008. It just doesn't make sense since UAL just got the IAD to PEK route, and two other airlines already fly nonstop to China from NYC (to PEK and PVG). Good try Doug! You can't argue with logic. Anyone care to debate that? You can't. Also, the US Government will be awarding this route. Hmmm. Delta would use two 777LRs made in SEA, or USAir would be using A340-500s made in Europe....Hmmm. Another good reason.

Classic. There you go again with that dumb statement--"Don't pop a mole..." or whatever.

I bring the facts, and you bring the attacks. Good try. Know your role indeed----you are the loser. If you can debate my stance, do it. I haven't seen anything yet. Why should USAir get it over DL's proposal? Why should another NE city get it over the busiest hub in the world with the most connections? Why should the US government care about A340s vs 777s? Can you really answer any of these? I didn't think so. Go for it. I am waiting Mr. Machine gun..........

Great. Did you know 3 other airlines fly nonstop to China from within 100 miles of PHL? That is all that matters. They already have service. Delta and the SE United States have NO nonstop service, and Delta already has the planes coming (US built) for that service. Our ATL hub has more connections available for passengers compared to PHL also.

Fact is you don't know how to debate!! Everything you debate is narrow minded! You only see things thru Delta!! So how can anyone have a Debate!!

You don't speak facts, only in your mind do you think they are fact! Here are a few of your facts!!

Fact- You said Delta wouldn't give up scope! We'll wrong on that FACT
Fact- You said Delta Pilots would strike! We'll wrong on that FACT
Fact- You said Delta Pilots wouldn't take paycuts! We'll wrong on that Fact too!!!

Plus you say you make 200k a year as a FO on the 757!!! Fact, I know your wrong!!!!!!!

Anytime you are wrong, you whine and cry!! There is no debating any issue with you!!!!

Bottom line!! Get your facts straight!!!!!!!!! Jeez, geek boy!

Wow, are you screwed up. I never said I make 200K a year as a 767FO. Nope. I said all of us at DL will be getting a chunk of change equalling over 200K for the equity in the claim sale for new stock, and even more cash for the replacement of the pension (the $650 million note). But, of course, you didn't read my whole post, it must have had too many numbers for you and kooter to read....

Look what you wrote above. "We'll wrong on that fact." We'll equals we all. You really are from the boonies, aren't you?

You probably know that I said we would strike for a reason, primarily as a scare tactic. When other people get nervous, they talk to their superiors, and then they talk to management. Someday you will learn stuff like that. In the mean time, YA'll have a good night now, ya hear? Go play the banjo now....

Wait, we'll means we will, right? Gawd, he is crazy.

You didn't strike
You gave up scope
You took paycuts

You gave everyone on flightinfo so much crap on these issues and you were dead wrong! I think people would have more respect for you if not for your narrowmind!

Is that the sound at your ticket counters after the storm?

Bye Bye--General Lee

No its the sound of even stronger bookings after all the free advertising B6 received, so you can tell the DAL boys in JFK to keep on calling the media every time they think B6 screwed up....

That's twice you've made that "we'll have US made planes" doing the route. I don't see how that'll make a difference in the DOT's award. It absolutely has no bearing what so ever, Northwest now uses ALL Airbus equipment for their Euorpean flying, who cares what plane you use as long as it's capable of making the flight safely. I know you have this thing against US, but lay off the "aircraft" racist remarks. You never know, you might end up flying one some day.

Senator Stevens of Alaska asked Doug Parker what kind of planes he had on order at the Delta/US Commerce Committee hearing. If you don't think that has importance, then you are wrong. Northwest has had those slots in Asia forever, so they could put any type plane on there, and the NWA European flights did not require US Government approval. Notice the new route NWA was going for in the last round (won by United on 744s from IAD to PEK) was DTW to PVG advertised on a NWA 744. It means a lot more than you think. This is an AWARD by the US Government, and they want to reward their own citizens too, and BOEING. Orders mean a lot to this country in terms of jobs. Used A340s do nothing for us.

Is he trying very hard to make me say I was WRONG once? Wow. I knew we wouldn't strike in the end, but we had to show determination or we would have been completely run over (we never lost our work rules, which are worth more than money). We did lose 6 seats for scope, even though they wanted more. That is the new line, and they would have to go BK again to change it, which is unlikely. We took some paycuts, but we will be given a lot of money (more than $200,000 each in claims for new stock or the cash equivalent), and we are assured small raises each year, plus the chance for larger raises (up to 6% a year) if the company does well. So, those are my responses, and they are true. You can harp on me all you want, but you need to look at your own situation in the aviation world and see your own worth. Enjoy the Dash.
