Positive Space

The training department will book you positive space. You are supposed to take at least the next to last flight back in time for your training. One can declare a "must-ride" if you get bumped to the final flight back to IAH. You'll get your ID by the second week to JS on offline carriers.

so by the second week you are free to leave on week-ends, jumpseat on any airline and just make sure you are back in time? do they just book positive space once to get there or will they do that for you to go home, or go do the boston marathon for example.

They will only book you positive space to your home of record. Anywhere else you have to use your ID to jumpseat, or take your chances on regular pass riding.

During initial (only time I've been in training other than recurrent), they positive spaced me all over the place, not just to home of record. I wasn't taking off to Tokyo or anything, but I went to several different cities during my breaks/wknds in training and they pos' spaced me to all of them. Maybe they weren't supposed to ... (?)

They will book you both ways. The intent for positive space is to commute you to your home of record. However, it has been used to travel to weddings, reunions, etc. You should be alright as long as your are not abusing the good deal. You'll find out your schedule in the first few days and should have the first couple of weekends off (no promises). As soon as you finish ground school and start FTDs and sims, the schedule is random.

so they give you that ID right away then right? Does anybody know what class date people are getting that are interviewing THIS week? The interview is NEXT week.

Beginning from day one in training, if you have 2 days off in a row, they will book you positive space to and from your place of residence only. I've heard in the past that they would send you anywhere you want to go, however, they have tightened that up. (it takes a seat of a person trying to get to work). You don't need your ID to do this. However, you usually get that pretty quickly.
