I hear ya!! Doesn't really matter what aircraft you fly when it comes to experience!! That just shows your ignorance.
There are many bush pilots that know more about aviation then any of us! I am sure a V1 cut in the simulator of Dash 8 is a lot more work then an 737, etc, etc!!
Its hard work pushing buttons!!!
You learn your airplane, gain experience flying it and hope to god you have a safe flying career! My Dad was a military pilot and each day he came home and gained some kind of experince each time he flew! You learn each and every day of your life!!
But anyway!! Know your role!!! And go push some buttons!!

I guess those SWA pilots in Burbank a few years back had plenty of experience as well as the AA crew that ran off the runway in LIT years ago. I've been at the regionals and now at a major and let me tell you that because you have 10,000 + hours does not make you a super pilot. I have flown with a few "experienced" captains that sure seem to have couldn't happen to me syndrome.

I never disagreed with that!!!! Of course you can have experience and lack common sense! Common sense is something that isn't taught, you have it or don't. Your right, you can have 10,000 and great experience, but no common sense!

Runway 28 is about 6100 feet long - 5100 past the glide slope... and the glide slope was inop.
Not to mention, it was snowing like a sumbitch when they landed. The plane we picked up landed three ahead of them, and they very nearly went to the alternate at minimums on the LOC/VNAV.
The crew that brought our plane in said that the braking action wasn't bad, they got off at the end of 28 with no real problem.

Glide slope was in service but due to the 15" of snow we got the other night it was notamed as:
FDC 7/3107 (KCLE A0785/07) CLE FI/T CLEVELAND-HOPKINS INTL, CLEVELAND, OH. ILS RWY 28, AMDT 22.... DUE TO EFFECTS OF SNOW ON THE GLIDE SLOPE MINIMUMS TEMPORARILY RAISED TO LOCALIZER ONLY FOR ALL CATEGORY AIRCRAFT. GLIDE SLOPE REMAINS IN SERVICE. HOWEVER, ANGLE MAY BE DIFFERENT THAN PUBLISHED.
The straight in LOC 28 mins for category C are 1200msl (400agl) and 3/4 or 4000 RVR.
Rumor is that they (CLE Tracon) were clearing aircraft for the ILS 28, glide slope OTS approach, which would have everyone using the higher mins anyway.
So it's not hard to imagine a situation where the runway is seen at the last minute on a NP approach, chop and drop takes place to get down, with no reliable glideslope for reference and the runway markings covered by heavy snow. Therefore there isn't a good visual reference for where to touch down. When you do finally get down again you don't have a good idea where you are at in relation to the TDZ. Runway is slick so you try to get into reverse, have a little trouble getting up and over the gates and end up skidding sideways in the process (according to one of the pax on board) and before you know it, your 6100ft of pavement are up and you've gone through the fence.
Point being, it could happen to any of us under these circumstances.
Glad no one was hurt. And yes it does seem like we have at least one overrun a winter. That lake effect snow is a b!tch to land in. Ya'll stay safe out there.

Minimum time in the left seat at SA is 2500 hrs. Minimum time in the right seat is 1500 hours. I understand that the captain is a CKA on the aircraft.

Minimum hours are correct, Wrong about the check airman.... although I have flown with the captain and he is a good, level headed guy. We are all anxiously awaiting results
FWIW the local Faux News channel was interviewing one of the passengers on the flight, Cleveland Indians Hall of Fame baseball player Bob Fellers of all people, who stated that the pilot should be "exonerated of all chargers, it wasn't his fault." He actaully spoke with some knowledge as he said they were in the sun until over the approach lights, then complete white out, then back in the sun by the time they had come to a stop at the end of the runway.

Wow, another great post. Love it. Hey, I am 41 and have plenty of time for retirement, especially since I will be getting about $200,000 before taxes (after the 65 cents on the dollar is added) for the equity stake, and probably another 60-70 grand from the pension note---which will be divided a couple ways--last year (2006), this year (o7) and next year (08) will be filled to the max for the 401K--that is $44,000 a year son, each year. Then the rest will be taxed, but enough left over to fill my roth IRA's and my wife's roth. My wife has her own 401K at her work (she does very well), so I think we have that covered.
And as far as hanging out at my computer 24/7---you know that isn't true. I do fly, and when I do it is usually turns to really nice places, like St Thomas or San Juan. (they are islands in the Carribbean if you didn't know, the body of water south of Florida....) And if I layover, I do stay at great places you may never see. But wait, you could apply to Delta, we are hiring....And, watch out for those ASA RJs entering the pattern at New Bern, they may run you over.....Mr. Machine gun....yeah right. More like pellet gun. I must be a howitzer. (that is what my wife says)

Your are a FO on the 75/76 right? Where is 200k a year on this pay scale!!!! I know your not topped out!!! So lets say you are 108.00hr and will say your paycredit avg. 90hrs a month!!! hmmmmmm 9,720.00!!! After tax man jumps in and 401k... your bringing in about 6200.00 a month... and times 12 months!!!!
Your barely gonna go over 100 grand!!!! Pretax maybe 130,000!!! lol Too funny!!!! Plus if you file jointly you can only contribute 4,000 a year to your roth (combined) And more concessions are on the way!!!
