Had an upper eschelon type in my jumpseat yesterday. Here is some stuff:

A spike has occurred in recalls, calling for a temp halt in new-hire classes. The reason is money that is going to be coming to active pilots once Delta emerges from BK.

They are looking at how many pilots can fit into the pipeline for training. He said that they are hoping to hire "more than 200" this year. That is new-hires; not just recalls and new-hires. They are trying to accelerate deliveries of the AA 757s if possible. They are also trying to accelerate the 777 LRs to get them ASAP.

Expect increased service to Korea. This will be in -ER aircraft in order to get them over to China where the checks will be when we stop doing them in Canada.

The 777 LRs will be coming with an EFB. That's an electronic flight bag. This will be the test bed for EFB throughout the fleet.

LAX will be the test bed for a common 757/767/767-400 category.

The hundred seater is still being decided upon. No decision as of yet.

Just some tidbits. He wouldn't give me anything real juicy. He did paint a pretty rosy picture though.

FWIW

An "upper eschelon's" job is to paint roses... Wether he is unior or Mgmnt.

We're also going to buy either Jetblue or Alaska after we exit BK, then merge with NWA.......

Actually I heard NWA was going to buy DAL after BK exit, turn the 777's into freighters, have DAL do most of the south flying, NWA Pac exclusive, combined EU, and use the 320/MD80/DC9 fleet for feed for the intl routes. Seniority integration will be strict DOH. :bomb:

Funny, but I heard a little different. Delta management will takeover, and ATL will remain the HQ. Your DC9s will be parked eventually, and replaced with our new 737-700s and maybe E190s. There will still be Europe flying from DTW and MSP, but smaller in number, instead routing planes to our larger JFK base. The 744s will replace the 742s as freighters, and the 777s will takeover the larger routes, with 787s doing the smaller. But hey, that was the latest rumor......

AMR just got a commitment from GS for $10B and they're gonna run both your a$$es outta business (and maybe a LCC, to boot!). ;) TC

12 minutes to respond? You're slacking....;)

Which management? Grinstien or Bethune? Rumor mill is pretty quiet but keep getting some cryptic messages that it's just a matter of time before the whole merger dance continues.

Hah! That's to fund the executive compensation package - they'll do an LBO to keep the operation afloat!!

Grinstein is on his way out. He wants to retire and go back to SEA. I think maybe Bethune could be asked. I think we will eventually dance too.

What about Whitehurst for CEO?

PuffDriver is echoing the kool-aid I'm hearing. I feel pretty confident things will work out well.

the latest I heard was that the plan for mixed fleet flying with the 75/76/764 is on hold. Some contractual issues preventing it, also the need is going away. After summer, all the 764s will be outfitted with Business Elite, and by next summer will be going to Europe. LAX will lose the 765 category (yes, the category is called 765) but will pick up a 7ER category. The 765 flying will all be out of ATL.
