Does anyone know if mesaba MEC is talking with managment or northwest alpa about this scope issue. This is probably the biggest issue mesaba is yet to discuss and there are alot of questions we need answered.

1. Flow up and down? How would the flow up and down be handled with to seperate companies.

2. Are all the Mesaba pilots senior to the newhires at compass and how does that effect the flow up?

3. Northwest established payrates verses mesaba's?

4. How many letters of intrest did northwest receive form their forloughs for compass?

5. How would seniority be handled once you went to northwest with respect to pay and newhires?

Also I think Northwest ALPA and Mesaba Alpa our in an unusual position where both can come out in a better position if this is handled correctly. If compass and mesaba becomes one and nwa forloughs have first dibs it will give mesaba massive growth with 4 planes being added per month. With about 550 on the seniorty list every pilot will be able to upgrade within a year to the saab and in two to the CRJ or EMB. It would also allow every pilot to move to northwest if they choose to in five years as long as we don't have another industry downturn. Alos with 2500 retires at northwest over the next five years I think mesaba will be pretty safe.

The language of the NWA contract is specific as far as wholly owned subsidies go. If NWA is allowed to operate the 76 seat jets under the mesaba contract they will put all the jets there. This would wipe out the negotiated protections for pilots moving to the wholly owned subsidy carved out in the NWA language. As far as I know they are working on an LOA that allows Mesaba to fit into the contract, it may be growth limiting to mesaba.

Why would NWA want to limit growth at XJ? The majority would agree that NWA purchased xj to turn around and sell them at some point down the road. How valuable is xj going to be with only a limited amount of growth from their current position?

The NWA pilots negotiated what they believed would be the best possible deal for furloughs given the situation; which is Compass. Since Mesaba has taken concessions the compass contract is a whole lot better than the Mesaba one. The NWA pilots are making sure that Mesaba complies with the provisions set out in the scope agreement as to not screw them if all growth is given to XJ.

I think NWA and XJ management have had there way thus far and I see no way NWALPA could even attempt to limit the growth of XJ. ALPA is a toothless old crocodile these days and for all of its bluster has not (in recent times) and for the foreseeable future will not impact management decisions.

Just remember, Union or no union, Doug S. will always get his way and will win in the end.

NWA ALPA "there is no way Mesaba is growing as compass, those EMB's are ours!" NWA management's response, " How about we buy more (insert new jet name here ie 787's) with firm orders? then will you allow this?" NWA ALPA "sure, thats great! how about better pay rates for the captains too?"

the first thing to go is the "flow down and (to good to be true) flow up. they'll get back partial pension or more sick pay out of this. Just wait and see.

Has this seniority number issue even been offered? I wish all the best but I doubt the a flow anywhere is unlikely. At best it will maybe be a three for one deal or a huge fence of like twenty years.

The bigger issue is how NWA is going to "welcome" you into the "family". What are they going to do to existing contract items, is the question I would be asking. I am guessing but I bet it will be a bastard step child/sub-standard/I pit you against them mentality. It has worked so well in the past.

The NWA MEC has one goal at the present time and that is to make sure that NWA management has to follow the contract to the letter. Nothing against Mesaba or anyone else. The NWA pilots from the most Sr to Jr insist on it or we will be looking for new leadership. .

So much for brotherly love and all that other ALPA crap.

Like a two year old screaming mine mine mine.

It's not limiting growth, but growth of 76 seat jets, without a J4J deal made with NWALAPA, you would not ever have the opportunity to fly at XJ.

We are simply demanding that NWA comply with the contract they signed.

Dad your not even close.NWA wanted this contract and now we will make sure they comply.BTY most guys I know think the list should be merged.Ever hear "fly the contract"? This is the same thing.

heck, i would love to have the list merged. As a regional pilot, it would allow more doors to be opened. In the future, i could just wait out my turn in order for flying something better than the saab. If i wanted, I could go somewhere else when the opportunity presented itself. There was an article in the star tribune about NWA future....let me see if i can post the link. Bottom line is I think a lot of people would be screwed if mass mergers happened (mass job losses) Time to call your senetor and remind them how jobs are important and so are competing airlines. By the way, i am a firm beleiver that its NWA pilots that make the call about what happens to XJ, do they want us? I have no idea, but I do know forcing the issue is not an option.
