AirTran Airways Announces Service to San Diego International Airport- From Southern Charm to Southern California: Airline Sure to 'Right' Fares on the 'Left Coast' -
ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: AAI), today announced plans to begin seasonal service at San Diego International Airport (SAN). Starting May 24, 2007, the growing low-fare carrier will connect what San Diegans claim is "America's Finest City" to another world-class location, Atlanta. AirTran Airways will offer daily nonstop flights between San Diego and Hartsfield- Jackson Atlanta International Airport. San Diego is the 54th destination to be served by the award-winning low-fare airline.
AirTran Airways will be the only carrier out of Southern California to offer Business Class seating and free XM Satellite Radio on every flight. Plus, with introductory fares as low as $139* one-way, visitors and residents alike should have plenty of money left to visit the famous San Diego Zoo, shop in the Gaslamp Quarter and explore the area's magnificent beaches from La Jolla to Leo Carillo, and up to Pismo.
"We are confident this service will be popular for Atlanta residents that are California Dreaming and San Diego travelers going east for business or pleasure," said Bob Fornaro, AirTran Airways' president and chief operating officer. "AirTran Airways' low fares, award-winning frequent flyer program and popular inflight amenities such as Business Class and XM Satellite radio make this service a 'peachy' choice with a very sunny outlook."
"The Airport Authority is thrilled to welcome a major new airline to San Diego International Airport, AirTran Airways," said Thella F. Bowens, President/CEO of the Airport Authority. "And we are especially excited that AirTran is bringing convenient nonstop service between San Diego and Atlanta. Atlanta, in addition to being a wonderful tourism and business destination in its own right, is one of AirTran Airways' largest hubs, offering connecting flights to destinations nationwide. This new AirTran service will mean more choices and more convenience for San Diego travelers."
The following nonstop service between San Diego International Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport will begin May 24, unless otherwise indicated:
Nonstop Service Between San Diego and Atlanta From To Flight Departs Arrives Frequency San Diego Atlanta 614 11:35 a.m. 6:55 p.m. Daily San Diego* Atlanta 618 9:59 p.m. 5:00 a.m. Daily Atlanta San Diego 611 9:20 a.m. 10:45 a.m. Daily Atlanta* San Diego 615 6:55 p.m. 8:20 p.m. Daily * Effective May 31.

Anything to give DAL a run for their money....and a new way for So Cal commuters to get to ATL.

BTW -- There are NO beaches North of La Jolla that allow tourists, So STAY South!!!

Nice,.. fly Airtran to San Diego to visit Leo Carillo and Pismo beaches? Leo Carillo is north of L.A. and Pismo is a 6-hour drive (San Luis Obispo).

Does the Airtran advertisement in San Diego say "Fly non-stop to ATL to visit "The French Quarter"?

Ok, enough of my annoying rant.

No, but it does say, "Fly non-stop to ATL and still have enough money to get rolled in College Park".

Actually Leo Carillo Ranch is next to CRQ/CLD Airport, Not North of LAX.

And I repeat myself - There are NO beaches up in the Carlsbad Area worth seeing, so please keep the tourists in the Downtown San Diego area....Thank you.

Holy crap. I wonder if the advertising drones realized they nicked a line from The Big Lebowski? It's from Walter's moronic eulogy for Donnie when they were scattering his ashes.

Yer forgetting Leo Carillo State Beach in the west end of Malibu. Between Point Dume and County Line. There are no beaches worth seeing in this area either, and all tourists (except me) should stay in Santa Barbara and Venice. Thank you.

Yeah,,, uh-huh, suuuuurrrre. LOL ;)

Don't worry, IF and WHEN I ever switch to the 737 and get out that way on a long layover, I'll try and convince the crew to take the day boat SOUTH into Mexico.

Cheap boots, cheap booze, cheap... well... *ENTERTAINMENT*. :O ;) :D
