Thinking about going over to SKW, the east coast commute is driving me crazy. I live at an ORD outstation and just wondering what kind of commutable schedules I could expect over there. I understand ORD is junior now? Do you think I could expect to hold show times after 1000 and release by say 1700? Thanks for the info......

edit: do you guys have a commuter clause?

We dont have a commuter clause, ORD schedules are not commuter friendly, and now especially with PBS, it's very common to have an uncommutable 4 day coupled with another 2 day for a total of 6 days on. Any unlike NetJets, you dont get a week off after your week on at SkyWest, usually just 2 days. I'm referring to lineholders too, not just reserves. Bottom line, schedules at SkyW are absolutely lousy unless you are in the top third of the list.

United changes SkyWest's schedule monthly, so obviously the lines get changed monthly. Seniority moves pretty fast, especially with all the expansion going on. There are some 4-days every month that meet your criteria.

There is no commuter clause, but if you get stuck, crew planning is actually very good at helping out. I'm a commuter and they have always been very good to me when I've had problems -- you just can't make it habit.

I disagree about the bad schedules; I think they are just fine. But the quality of schedules is very objective. Those that know how to use PBS properly get rewarded with good schedules.

Yep........

as for the commuting thing, I know a few guys that commute, and whenever they have a problem, they let crew scheduling know ASAP and pick up their trip whenever they can......no repercussions except for the guys that do this once a week...

I'm in the top 1/10th and they're still lousy...just got the same days off as a reserve even though put in minimum 16 off on PBS bid!

I disagree with the bad schedules. If you know how to use PBS you can get the days off that you need. Obviously the late show / early release trips go quickly. Generally, on 3 and 4 days trips they either start early / end early or start late / end late. I am only 50% up the list and I think PBS is great...

Good Luck....

It sucks we don't have a commuting clause but crew scheduling is pretty good about helping you out. For example this weekend, they are offering positive space travel for anyone commuting to work.

Try bidding in any non-junior domicile!

"only if you qualify and it's a last resort." That's what i was told. Too many days off in advance of the work day to give positive space. Just like those 2 "free" days to be awarded if you pick up open time now. Silly rabbit, tricks are for.............SKW pilots.....

PS. But I will agree, I have let go into trouble for missing a commute.

Disagree 100% with sucky non-commutable lines. I'm fairly junior and since my 2nd month there I have not had to come in the night before or leave the day after. Good solid 24 hour 4 days, nice paying standups, good 2 days, locals.

ok...just about the majority of the people I know bid DEN, same seniority, some lesser and they claim the lines and commutability are much better. Same goes for SLC.

Those are still junior domiciles...lots of people going right in fresh out of training! Try any other RJ domicile and see how ya do with PBS!! PBS does not work well in the smaller domiciles, can honestly say I have not been close to my pre-PBS schedules in terms of days off or pay. In the smaller bases the top 1 or 2 crewmembers might get what they want but if you're further down it seems you end up working more days and getting less credit....a lot of this has to do with the declining quality of the pairings! Do you really think I would have anything against PBS if it had really improved my quality of life in any way?

I think, in general, PBS works best in domiciles where you have a lot of pilots on your list [DEN, SLC, ORD]. Makes sense that guys and gals aren't as happy in the more-senior and smaller Cali bases.

Agreed...regardless, is it right for someone senior to have to work Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, and New Years Day(also Thanksgiving)? Or to have the same amount of days off as a new hire on reserve?? PBS, and or the pairings could use improvement and in fact we were promised that PBS would allow scheduling to concentrate on "improving the schedules" and quality of life!!!!

This statement is not accurate. I bid around 100 of 160 lines in denver and hold 14 days off a month, with all trips more than easily commutable, with weekends off. I haven't found the schedules to be bad at all in the year and a half I have been here.
