Thank You Very Much, ASA!

As a way to thank all employees for their work not only during the busy holiday season, but year-round, ASA next week will distribute a coupon to every ASA employee for a 12 lb turkey. Turkey coupons will be handed out with pay stubs on Dec.15 and will be redeemable at major grocery stores nationwide.

"We’re glad to be able to give our people something they can share and enjoy with their families over the holiday season," said Sam Watts, vice president – People. "We have several holiday traditions here at ASA and I’m glad to be able to start this one this year."

Should we thank ASA, or Uncle Jerry? Either way, what a refreshing change. Seems to be in the air...

Probably Uncle Jerry. Its been a SkyWest ritual every year.

The past couple of years has been simply nothing or some Christmas card or a a couple of pieces of cookies wrapped in plastic. It came out in a box with newspaper shreads. I ate them for lunch. So I'd say this is a vast improvement. It's Skywest that is doing this....not the ASA management.

Kudos

I don't care who is responsible, I think this is a positive gesture on the part of Skywest/ASA. After the kick in the nads we received over the last several years around Christmas, I applaud ASA for this move towards improved employee morale. A turkey for Christmas is a tradition at many fine companies (UPS comes to mind as one of them.) and I hope this becomes a tradition as Sam Watts says it will be.

And all this time I thought you were talking about Oh please, JB, and a couple of the other turkeys that work there!
But then the title would say ASA TOOLS!

I think they did it thinking all the senior rednecks would burn themselves while frying it, taking personal leave, and therefore reducing cost and making us more competitive.

thank Jerry/SkyWest. we get a turkey every year at Thanksgiving.

doesnt matter from whom - for once we should all be thankful - regardless of whom we think is responsible - this is a nice sign

thanks

A Turkey... or a Contract... a Turkey... or a Contract...

TURKEY!

Turkey ended up being cheaper, but only by a little.

Dang pilots, they're never happy are they?

Hahahahahaha

You folks definitely have symptoms of Stockholm Syndrome. All the gratitude for something you can get for free with a $25 grocery purchase at your local grocery store is a sure symptom. "Have you Forgotten?", it's been 4 years without a fair contract! Like the message in the old "Wendy's" commercial said a few years ago, "Where's the Beef?" Color me ungrateful! My wages and buying power have diminished by 10-12% over that period of time. Our loss is their gain! Do you really think Brian and Jerry will be eating turkey with all that money saved?

More than they gave you at the orphanage sport, or should I sayuppercurst!

They gave me a good education at the orphange sport. Ok, whatever the hell that is??

What's up with uppercurst? Or how about D'Angelo, Guat, Rhoid, etc... I have looked up their posts. No comparison here to this brother.

A turkey's not bad, it could be a one year enrollment in a jelly of the month club. :D

Are you for real? Nobody here has said anything about letting ASA Mismanagement off the hook for the last four years. I think most people see this a a small step, but at least a step in the right direction. Change in the order of magnitude required to repair the relationship between the pilots at ASA and management does not come about overnight. A turkey here, some TA'd sections in the contract there (five ready for TA in the last two negotiation sessions, small ones to be sure but wrapped up nonetheless.) Time will tell whether this step towards decency is the beginning of the journey I mentioned above.

Guys. It's a turkey, just like the cookies were cookies. The company we work for is under no obligation to give us a Christmas present. I, for one, think it's one he11 of a nice gesture.

One suggestion to the management types that read this board, though... If this really is going to be a Christmas tradition as Mr. Watts said, it would be nice to include an option to donate said turkey to a local shelter/food kitchen. I've seen that done at other companies I have worked at, and it was always received well. After all, most of us can afford a 12 lb. turkey, but a little bit of good karma is a little bit harder to come by. As they say, "Good goes around". Just a thought, G/O folks. In the meantime, I appreciate the gesture.

you could always take the turkey down there yourself, if you're really concerned about that. it's a very thoughtful gesture.

btw, I am as disappointed with the skw pay situation as everybody else, but it would be very easy for the company to just not send out that coupon AND not give an appropriate raise. they chose not to do that.

A step in the right direction? Time will tell? Look at history! Don't have the battered wife circular reasoning mentality--it might get better, someday!

Always remember this:

They are Management! Their job is to get you to do more for less. Their responsibility and loyalties are to the stockholders. Your labor costs are a large portion of their total labor costs. If they could dispatch airplanes without pilots--it would be done.

You are Labor! You want more money, more days off, and better work rules. These all cost more money!

There will always be irreconcilable conflict and adversity!

In animal training, there is punishment and reward! I want go into the punishment detail, because for some, it would be traumatizing. The reward part is approval through petting and a small treat such as animal food.

You are getting a Turkey--animal food!

So, are you returning the turkey to SkyWest, INC.?

From the title I thought this was another thread ripping ASA management. I guess I ended up being right, it just took a while to get there. "Turkeys" is a benign term for what I think of our illustrious leadership.

I'll enjoy the meal, but this really doesn't change my views on the current state of affairs at ASA.
