Who cares if they both have coveted Asian routes. One will have to sell them. Too bad. Give it to a LCC. And who cares if there are three hubs right next to each other (ORD, MSP, DTW). Sell one. Southwest would LUV it, or Airtran will take it over. Oh well. And, we all know consolidation SHOULD happen, so let's merge two companies that shouldn't be merged, ruin a bunch of lives, enrichen a bunch of execs, and get rid of jobs.... (Sounds as smart as a DL/US merger--We both have NYC Shuttle, hubs nearby, fly the same routes, etc.)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Given the service disruptions that usually take place during and immediately after mergers....I say let 'em happen. Disgruntled employees, seniority battles, turf wars, "our way was better" discussions.....I want them to happen...sad part is, these CEO's are aonly after the "deal". Running a profitable operation after the merger is another story.

Is it still a monopoly if they charge rock bottom prices?

I am pointing out that merging two airlines with the same overlapping routes, and making one sell everything is ridiculous. Nobody would EVER consider merging NWA and UAL, primarily because of the "lucrative Asian routes" overlap. DL and US have lucrative NYC Shuttles and slots worth Millions$$$ at the SAME NE airports, but that doesn't seem to matter...........riiight. US and AWA merged with NO overlap. Nothing was sold, and that is why it was ultimately approved.

Are you saying that the Northeast Shuttle is the equivalent of the entire Pacific route structure of UAL or NWA?

I don't recall Donald Trump ever owning the Pacific Routes
