We received a letter from U.S. Airways this morning and will of course review it. Delta's plan has always been to emerge from bankruptcy in the first half of 2007 as a strong, stand-alone carrier, Jerry said. Our plan is working and we are proud of the progress Delta people are making to achieve this objective. The Bankruptcy Court has granted Delta the exclusive right to create the plan of reorganization until Feb. 15, 2007. We will continue to move aggressively toward that goal.

True, but regulators will look at the overlap, and members of Congress will be all over them if a hub in their district could go away. It won't be easy.

Good luck with the "Congress will keep us apart" theory due to a possible loss of a hub in New York. I don't think New York will lose a hub or any jobs because of this merger. New York has plenty of air service and the new JFK terminal will improve it further.

Airlines are climbing all over themselves to get gates in New York.

If it does go though and that is a big IF. U/DAL/AWA needs to sell one of the DCA-LGA-BOS shuttles, now do the pilots/airplanes/gates ect go to that new airline?? Probably be AA or UAL, be great if it's SWA!!

Probably need to get rid of 2 hubs SLC (too close to LAS/PHX) and CLT (close to ATL). Probably need to downsize from PHL and LGA. But Parker says no furloughs...don't hold your breath. This merge only benefits upper mgt and lawyers. Time will tell

As a creditor Boeing will not go for this as long as the new Delta is going to just buy Airbuses and we know the present US Airways likes their Airbuses.
I also dont think Airbus uses many PW engines (Dont really know). Would it not make more sense to put a bid in for Northwest, they have a more common fleet of aircraft. A319, A320, A330, B757 and no overlapping hubs so it would be easier on the government approval. UBA757

Many have said that Parker actually favors the Boeing aircraft. The USAirways aircraft were from Wolfe prior to 9-11. I wouldn't hesitate to think that a nice little Boeing order would follow a USAirways/DAL merger.

This deal won't happen. Why? There isn't enough time. In order to reep the benefits of a merger, it's got to happen while Delta is still in bankruptcy. Once Delta emerges from Ch11, the deal isn't so sweet anymore. Crap, if I had the information prior to LCC's announcement, I would've made thousands on the stock market today... oh wait, we ought to see how much some of those executives made today on the stock market... In the end, if the deal happens, the winners will be the management and the losers will be the poor labor, sounds like a familiar tune, eh?

No, age 65 will only keep the old USAir guys there longer. There are plenty on the verge of retiring, and thanks to the Democrats now in Congress, they probably will retire soon. That will help out a lot. This merger or aquistion is only good for the investment bankers, even the anal-cysts on CNBC said so. Will the regulators know that too? You bet. We will see. The fleets aren't the same, the hubs are too close, and the frequent flyer programs would hurt the public by merging (according to those guys on CNBC). We shall see.....

I doubt you will see Airways ever buy Boeing.
If that is the case, you can bet there will be some backroom discussions from the guys in Washington State,,,er,,,,Chicago.

Flightsafety personnel have been whispering for weeks of something big going
on with RAH (in a good way). Everyone knows Parker hates Mesa, but I doubt he has that bad of an opinion of RAH. With RAH owning a portion of USAir and a presence on the board, I doubt Bedford is going to get the shaft in this one.
