I told you exactly how I got the position but the reply was too much to handle for some folks on this board.

Quit your whining and get my my coffee!
Next time I catch you slacking off, you'll find yourself outside looking in!

Last I heard you landed on a taxiway even with the Coffee. Or were you the one who clipped the your company plane at ORD. Oh nevermind -- those weren't RJs.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Delta STILL required everybody to have 1000 turbine PIC to get interviewed, regardless of connection.

Actually that's not true. I know a few guys from TWA that are working at DELTA that didn't have any turbine PIC. They had MD80 and 767 time but no turbine PIC. Happens all the time.

I stand corrected. Thanks for the clarification. I was under the impression that they were like FedEx and steadfast on the requirment.

What's it matter to you? THat's pilot talk. When I want your opinion on how to serve the coffee, I'll give it to you. For now, get back to fluffing up the first class pillows!

I could be wrong but I think FedEx, SWA, UPS and Airtran are the only airlines that require 1000 PIC turbine. I think most would like to see that but it's not a minimum.

I got hired at TWA, DAL (until the psych met me  ) ATA, Allegiant and CAL with very little PIC turbine. (92 hours) Granted the Captains don't let me touch anything but I am awesome at talking on the radio!!!!!! HA-HA

Good Luck

Can you please enlighten us all dumb pilots which air carrier it is who you are employed? I'd like to know so as not to fly on them!
Thanks,

It's also such a tiny industry that a hardcore "no-nepotism" policy would almost become a hurdle in hiring. The last 6 first officers I've flown with have a parent that flies 121, as do I. As time goes on you won't be able to sling a cat without hitting someone that has an uncle/cousing/brother/father that works at a given company. So the guy who was raised in ATL for obvious resons gets hired at Delta, the girl raised in SEA for the same reasons get's hired at Alaska, so be it. Anyway, nepotism isn't all its cracked up to be. I had an "in," tried my hardest, and blew it. Such is life, ya win some, ya lose some.

Had to be a girl or a minority too (ref. late nineties to early 2000).

Clearly you are not an aviation historian. United had the lower mins in the 1960's. How do I know? I'm an aviation historian. And, the department chair of the aviation program I attended was offered a flight officer career at United with only an IFR ticket.

Before you go hatin', get some education.

It sucks for white males who did not intern somewhere bit your day will come. It finally came for me and I still see people younger than me being hired with thousands of hours less time than I had when I was hired. Good for them. I would have taken a job as well if I were in there shoes.

IAHERJ[/quote]

Race/gender baiter. I know personally of white, male pilots hired at AirTran who had zero p.i.c. even though AirTran mins required p.i.c.

I personally know of several white, male pilots sprinkled throughout the legacies who were hired "under the mins" without having been an intern, a son of captain, or in blackface. Ever heard of AIRinc.? Ever heard of the military networks (ie. single engine fighter pilots with no ME time being hired to fly ME transport jets after securing recip ATP's in Seminoles)?

Stop hatin' just because the "old boy network" is more inclusive. Bottom line--if a professional pilot refuses to learn how to work the "old boy network" in order to propel their career toward their goal, then that pilot is a) ignoring the reality of the game and b) ignoring the checklist for success. Might as well land gear up. Both have the same effect on a pro pilot career.

Ours is not the only profession where networking is key. Do you really think that every professional-qualified athlete makes it to the pros? In our profession, like in the sports majors, there are a limited number of slots. Pro athletes become pro athletes by a) getting scouts to come see them b) getting enough local media attention to get scouts to come see them.

And just like in the sports majors, getting a look doesn't guarantee keeping the job. Poor attitude and poor ability weed out the majority of the unqualified. There are political exceptions to every rule.

I think this thread has reached the end of its productive life, and for that reason I am closing it down. There are plenty of other CAL threads that have lots of great info on them. If you need information on hiring mins for CAL do a search, you will find lots of great info.
