wilson polling - great stuff, they ask the same question 12 different ways and in the most ambiguous way. are you willing to strike? do you want a pay cut? do you think you deserve a fair raise? uhm - lets see, those are pretty broad questions.
how about you poll the pilot group on how well you are doing. pennecramp you are the biggest hypocrit of all here. even the slightest unhappiness with our union leadership and you label management. i have every right to disagree with my elected leadership, i pay them a good percentage of my check to work in my best interest - not someone else from national or their own. newy has been at ASA for what - about 6 years and with alpa for almost all of that. he (along with the negotiating commitee) havnt seen an airplane or the lin ein years. but they speak for me - yeah right.
Like the one this Monday where our MEC compared a 10% increase in our cost of insurance benefits as being equal to a 10% increase in our hourly $ wage, thus negating a 10% raise if we were to get it? Or when the CNC chairman himself refused to answer a direct question ask of him...which simply asked the % change for alpa since negotiations began as compared to ASA's % change since the same time....No way in he!! they don't have some idea of the numbers.
I do attend meetings and info. pickets and family awareness events and speak to the reps and the CNC guys.
I also talk to the Company guys to hear thier version of the "truth".
Somewhere in the middle lies the real truth.
I'd rather spend my time with family than join the country club, neighborhood assoc. or the MEC/LEC/CNC. That does not mean I shold not have an opinion about what "our" union is doing.
My opinion is we need a change of leadership.
You are certainly entitled to yours.
I've been called a few times. Missed most of them because I don't sit around the house when I'm off.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but, 92% for a strike vote is NOT a very impressive number. You must consider the appathy on the side of the NO vote. If you're a true YES vote, you're more likely to vote. I voted no and I hear from MANY newer guys/girls that regret having voted yes without understanding what that yes vote really meant.
Either they aren't doing a good job analyzing the data, or someone is misleading us. There is alot of support for the group of 4 and getting this contract settled, rather than staying the course and watching our airplanes disappear. The nomination results should be a wakeup call for ALPA.
I think it is great that OhPlease isn't getting his way.
I am just vindictive enough to get pleasure from the fact that his feathers are ruffled.
I chuckle at the fact that he is on the boards spouting his bs and does not have the conviction of his beliefs or the stones to stand up and be recognized.
Cowards are fun to laugh at.
All our ALPA volunteers have faults. But they are leaders and stand up for the pilots and what they think is right and take the arrows for it.
I laugh at the guys like OhPlease! Not for his beliefs or opinion, but for his lack of courage and convinction. If it wasn't for annonymous forum, the ************************* would have nothing to say.
So how and when do we get to vote?
In the MEC's favor. Of course we are all the union. However, as with any political group, those in the power are "really" the union. For the rest of us, our ability to effect change is limited to voting for or against current leadership when the time comes up.
bizjet take your meds - lets see - i was a captain when newie got here so the only thing he has more than me is time on delta flying to washington for some free lunches.
same old weak defense - if you dont like what's going on you must be management. try a stronger tactic - our current mec is about to get a wakeup call...

Not with 5000 hours you weren't.

I remember that question. I guess that makes you either Biscuit or Sean? Yes, I think all of us recall you two sitting there chucking spears at the CNC chairman, and pouting when he answered your questions without debate. In fact, as I recall, the whole room gave you two a glass of shut the hell up a couple of times. I guess majority really does rule.
As for the question you say he "refused" to answer, gee, I don't recall him ever refusing to answer a question... anyone else? Maybe you just didn't like the answer?
When you asked him the % change from their initial offer, he said "We don't have costing data for that", not "I refuse to answer the question". He may have a general idea, but it would have been irresponsible of him to offer a number he can't back up!
You should consider telling the truth sometime, instead of spouting hatred for your hard working VOLUNTEER union workers.
they "ball parked" plenty of other figures Monday. Why not that one? Of course he wouldn't say he refused to answer. I never said he was stupid.I remember that question. I don't "hate" anyone in alpa. I just feel that they have not been effective and feel that we need a change. You're entitled to you opinion too. Nothing I've said is untrue. Everything I've said is either my opinion or statement of fact about what was said or done Monday. He didn't answer the question.
You guys want the "memebers" to answer questions but, only questions that have answers that support your view. All anybody wants is an honest anwer. You expect it from Managment. Not that they're giving them either but, I'm not part of management, I'm part of alpa. Why is alpa affraid to answer the question?
"I don't have those figures" is NOT an honest answer. John may be the most honest person EVER but, that was not an honest answer. Most all of your questions have been answered dozens of times. Just because you don't like the answer doesn't mean they have not provided you with the answer. John Rice is one of the most honest, hard working individuals I have ever met. Why don't you come to the next LEC meeting and run your mouth about how the ALPA volunteers lie, refuse to answer questions and spew more of your stupid baseless allegations. I am sure there would be more than a few who would like to know who your worthless a$$ is! You post the same insulting bull crap everytime you post. There are many of us who support our elected officials and would take your insults directed at those volunteers personal. Crawl back under your rock, worm.
Copious amounts of Wilson polling??? I told them absolutely "NO STRIKE" when I was polled and I've only been polled once. Why not a paper ballot like USAirways or many of the other carriers so that EVERYONE provides imput at the same time. I feel this is a crucial move to make if everyone is to give imput and we are to truly "feel the pulse of the pilot group". It seems as if the Wilson polling is so spread out and erratic it fails to yield useful results for the entire pilot group. I also feel that probationary members should have a say in this, as it DIRECTLY impacts them for the longhaul of the next contract.
My, aren't we quite the statistician.....
I don't know of too many people that were called at home by the Wilson polling center for their strike vote.
So, getting back to my original question- why not a mailed questionaire or scantron to the ENTIRE pilot group at the EXACT SAME TIME so that EVERYONE gets some imput on this thing.....or does that make too much sense to be put in motion for some people????
"I don't have those figures" is NOT an honest answer. John may be the most honest person EVER but, that was not an honest answer.
If I'm not working, I will be there as usual.

Because in case you haven't noticed....not all of us are at home for 3 or 4 days and they want the results ASAP! I have been polled about 3-4 times, so maybe you should either answer your phone or leave BL's office for more than 10 minutes at a time and go home to answer the calls!
What a TOOL!
Friday and still no news from the CNC or MEC regarding the meetings of Tuesday, Wed....Was the decision by the mediator supposed to happen at the end of those two days or are we going to be put through another delay for this too?? What's going on
I probably won't get an answer to this because it's an honest question, and not slinging crap about the Jackson 5, or slamming a member on here, or bashing the MEC, bashing management, or some of the othe stupid s*&t that goes on here..........
there lies our biggest obstacle....the board. The RLA is crap implemented in a time long, long ago when there were NO transportation options for American commerce. There are plenty of options now. If ALPA wants to really do something worthwhile, they should redirect the PAC and its huge bank account towards moving aviation OUT from under RLA but, that would require actually doing something for the millions they take each year. Won't happen, too many easier things to squable about. It s at the discretion of the board. They may take a week, possibly a month or longer to make a decision. It's all up to them unfortunately....and you know the government!
I predict the NMB will decline our request for a profer and leave us parked, err... recessed.
