A friend just called and I wasn't sure of the answer...please help:

On reserve since 6am...was given a trip that duties out at 2030. Does the 14 hour max scheduled duty day apply to reserves at ASA?

Or do we still have a duty pilot that can answer this?

You have to be finished and dutied out by 22:00 (16hours)
Reserve isn't considered on duty, you just aren't at rest.

Reserve is not duty. But it's also not rest.

What applies here is a 24-hour "lookback"....pilot must have has 8 hrs of uninterrupted rest within the last 24 hrs.

Thus, at the end of 16 hrs since starting the reserve period, the pilot is no longer eligible for duty.

duty starts @ 6:00. u cant fly past 8:00 pm. unless they called u the night b4 and changed your reserve period. they will try but they cant do it.

Not true,.. it depends when the trip started, or when you dutied in.. not when your reserve period started for the 14 hours. In his example he didnt say when the duty in time started. The reserve period counts for rest only.

In the exact situation guru Pete told me I had to fly. Sounds like your friend needs to go to work...

Have him call the scheduling guru, P.D. He'll set the record straight.

Actually, like him or not, P.D. knows the scheduling section and the FARS well. He has also been an advocate for many pilots when scheduling is trying to work around the contract. Scheduling knows P.D. knows the contract. I have called him on many issues and he has always given me good advice, even interceding with scheduling on 2 occasions. At the same time, if it doesn't cut your way, he tells you and explains why.

It is a free phone call and is a great resource according to other pilots, also.
