Freight Dog

Great post. True.

Young guys...let's not let these unsafe old-timers make us work harder having to keep an eye on them while they pad their retirement accounts. It's time for them to retire at 60. Help keep our skies safe. Write or call your lawmakers.

http://www.senate.gov
http://www.house.gov

Write to the FAA/DOT...they need to hear our concerns. Never seen what freight dog is referring to? It's insidious but it's real. Can you run as fast at 35 as you could at 25. You feel the same but the reality is you slow down. Our mental skills diminish too. This is a fact.

Tell our lawmakers your concerns. Tell them what you see on the line with the aging grumpy old men who want to change this rule. Let's keep our skies safe and let them retire as planned at 60. Make sure you let them know they will be accountable for anything bad that happens as a result of this change.

Why didn't he complain 10 yrs. ago when he got hired?

Hopefully you young guys can keep the senior captains from killing everybody when the age 60 rule changes. You seem to have decided it is all on your shoulders when that happens so make sure you are fully up to speed on everything so you can save the day when the captain folds up. Hopefully you can pass a captain check ride and not just be passed through like some of the weak FO's I have seen let through when I had to pass a check ride doing both my job and the FO's job when he couldn't. They were in their 30's though so had a lot of time to figure it out before they really had to be a captain. Hope they figure it out in time.

It doesn't look like "Hoot" had much part 121 time.

I hope he enjoys a longer retirement than his airline career.

All the best "Hoot".

NASA has space flight age limits

Hoot needs to exit gracefully, not complain about being forced out again. Musgrave understood why it was time to retire and took it in stride.

NASA discriminates against space flight even if the physical exams can be passed.

[FONT=Roman, helvetica] Having "The Right Stuff" used to include being young. Astronauts were strapping test pilots, or eager young Ph.D.s, their heads crammed with astrophysics and acronyms. The old guys took desk jobs........

....... Dr. Musgrave, at 61......An astronaut since 1967, when most of his Columbia crewmates were in grade school......

Story Musgrave is a Massachusetts dairy farmer's son. He recalls.......wondering at a starry universe that man had not yet touched.........He writes poems and fills journals about space.

Now, NASA has told him his record sixth shuttle flight this fall will be his last. The space agency won't say why, citing privacy rules. NASA spokesman Steve Nesbitt said accumulated exposure to radiation in space and bone loss due to weightlessness can factor into such decisions. Dr. Musgrave says he's "comfortable" with the decision.

Healthy and able? Are you as healthy as say... me? I'm in my early 30's sitting in the right seat flying back and forth across the Pacific. I fly with some of the finest gentlemen and some ladies who have served this airline, our industry and our military for decades. But I can't tell you how many mistakes I catch from older guys, from simple math and simple paperwork, to them just not quite "getting" the re-route clearance, to confused looks when things don't quite go the way things normally do, to simple multitasking, to them "forgetting" to flare, the list goes on and on. But man, God help me if I so much as suggest that they're not quite as healthy and able as they once were. They are up at arms, and they ALL think they can keep trucking well beyond 60.

Wow, your company sure is lucky to have you. It should be a requirement to have you on the flight deck for every single leg of every single flight. I guess a two man cockpit is probably one too many for you. I'm sure you believe all that dribble you just wrote. Do you at least give the captain a leg now and then? What an arrogant sheet. Forgetting to flare, you are an idiot.

It's DRIVEL, gramps.

Not dribble. Dribble is something you do with a basketball.

Drivel is something that you would write.

Is that the best you can do? Try to insult me or ridicule me?

You know, I normally ignore personal insults because they are normally hurled by individuals without any class. I'm hoping that given your age, you're not one of those and are just having a bad evening.

I'll be happy to debate, but please stick to the point.

Trying to be fair I reread your post, nothing to debate, if you really believe the crap you wrote, you are an idiot. Check the mirror for class, your post is an insult to every pilot at your company.

Flybynite, this is my last post to you. I've re-read my post as well, and I stated my observations. If I'm an idiot because they don't fit your agenda, so be it.

Enjoy your retirement.

Gee Hoot, funny how you start your crusade when you're a senior captain, days from retirement. Where was the passion five years ago when you were a copilot waiting for upgrade?

Speaking of Hooties, man that Farrah could really bring it back in the day.

She is still a pretty fine looking lady.

Thanks for that avatar!
