Okay, I'm reallly more than a little concerned now. As a new FO, where will I be able to live in the LA area? Obvious questionable, I really don't think that anyone could afford to live in LA on 1st yer FO wages. Anyone heard anything solid on how that might work? Is this something that has been/might be addressed by the folks at ASA?

Compton or Watts have cheap homes.

Bye Bye--General Lee

So its starting to sink in ??

You drive to ATL for initial training and stay at the luxurious Red Roof Inn for 6 - 8 weeks. Also known as crack house central.

Then after IOE you get the privilege of 4 moving days to drive all the way to LAX!! Of course this is at your expense. ASA doesn't give moving expenses to new hires. Actually they might give you 1 extra moving day because they're such great folks.

Then you will be introduced to the ASA way of doing things. Half As-ed.

Welcome to ASA. Don't you feel so lucky !!

go on craigslist, its really not that bad, I live 6 blocks from the beach, if you have roomates you can do it for 700-1000 a month. Move inland a couple miles (no not compton/watts) and you can get it down to 500 a month with roomates.........

Last time I checked, no other regional has their initial moving expenses paid for. Some even have double-occupancy.

bid back to ATL on your first day, (that is IF you get LAX) , and defintely do that crashpad thing. There are expected to be few classes behind you and theres no way that everybody in these classes are going to end up in LAX, so you'll probably get ATL before you finish training.

One upside to LAX for newhires.....It's a company paid move since it's a new domicile and you're awarded it within the first 6 months. Don't forget that.

Go to www.in-n-out.com, find a location, (there's one right next to 24R at LAX) then look for a room within walking distance. What else could you possibly need?

Try looking in Cerritos or Los Alamitos.

I'm partial to Malibu and/or Belair myself.

Try a rental in Redondo Beach. Nice and close to the airport. I am sure there are affordable rentals in the neighborhood.

I don't think Redondo Beach is a good idea.

The cheapest that is close to LAX is Inglewwood/Hawthorne etc...
One bedroom apartment for about $725-$950 p/mo.

Go anywhere else, and it's going to be over $1000 p/mo.for a one bed.

My advice would be to crashpad it for a while, then find roommates and split a two or three bedroom apartment. That way you can each pay part of the $1300-$1600 per month (plus utilities), and have some money left over for lunch.

Check out that in-n-out website for the nearest restaurant, they are also always hiring!!

Cerritos is hella expensive. I grew up there. ANd i think there is only one apt. complex in that city. I doubt you can find a home in that city under 5-600K. Now Norwalk, Artesia, and Hawaiian Gardens, might be cheap and they all border cerritos. but you really dont want to live there, especially the "one-ways" in varrrio norwalk, essay!

Buy an RV and park it in the employee lot, the place is a regular KOA. Dozens of RV's from bus conversions to little tiny ones.

State RV parking on the beach in El Segundo.....

Nah, here's the best burger: http://www.whataburger.com/

A franchise in the LAX airport where I could eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner would make the move much, much easier.
YGTBSM! You MUST be from Texas. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Whatchamacallitburger can't even touch IN-N-OUT!

And, yes, they ARE hiring at the Sepulveda (sp) location.

I was thinking the same thing. Double-double with grilled onions beats any burger any time.

How about a cardboard box next to the van down by the river????

Sorry, had to do it.

Yup, I was born and raised in El Paso, and made it out alive. However, I am very familiar with In-n-Out; they do have a good burger for whenever Whataburger is not available. Really now, can anyone else make a chorizo taquito, with Jalapenos, hasbrowns, and a chocolate shake into a value combo? 24 hours a day? I just dont think that is an option on the In-n-Out menu...

they kicked all the rv's out of the D lots.....last I remember, there were a bunch of signs that even said no camping or something to that effect....

Since we've jacked this thread, I'll continue. The only people I've ever met that call whataburger the best ever, are all from TX. I lived there but never really found it to be that good. While the 24 hour option is a bonus, the beauty of IN-N-OUT is the simplicity of their menu. They don't make taquitos. They don't make hashbrowns. They make the best fresh burgers and made-to-order fries in America. Order one animal style sometime. Now I'm jonesing for a double-double.
