Just got an interview with Republic for the 2nd of Nov - anyone with good current interview gouge to pass my way that would be great. Also any information from past and or present crew dogs about operations and the company would be appreciated. I flew cargo jets in the USAF for 15 years and took a few years off to run a family business before flying lodge support for a summer up in Alaska. Thought this would be a good job and not necessarily looking to make it a stepping stone - Looks like they have great jets and good domiciles and seems like a pretty fast upgrade to Captain - looking more for stability than what I'd find jumping to a major at this point. Any ideas?

Although republic/chq/s.a. is a stable company right now with the 170s and the contracts they have in place. with 15 years of USAF experience, why go to republic? For the experience that you probably have, why work for a regional? Flying for a regional is NOTHING to brag about...

You should be able to go right to FedEx or UPS - why bother with the regionals, unless it's just to get back into the game, before moving on.

Yes, because it's super easy to get one of the few coveted brass ring jobs still available. You should definitely hold out for only UPS or FedEx!

Nobody said "Hold out" for anything, Dumba$$!!
I, like others, am wondering why someone with this kind of experience/background would come to RAH, unless, as previously stated, he is just trying to get his feet wet again.
My question was directed at him, not one of the FI snipers (you).

Hey guys thanks for the responses -

To those wondering why a regional - I've been watching this company for a while and they have been actually making money - that in "any" business is a good thing - in the aviation business it is something most majors have a hard time doing over the long term.

Second, I worked for a family business for 4 years after my Air Force days and have around 1000 hours since that time mostly ferrying time and bush time up in Alaska - a blast every hour it was - but might need more time before SWA or FEDEX call -

also, and this is kind of a biggie for me so follow me on this one - I had 188 hours of "student" time in UPT in the Air Force - I was then brought back as a First Assignment Instructor Pilot and flew about 1000 hours in the T-37 as an instructor - I then went directly to the left seat in a KC-135 as an aircraft commander upgraded to instructor and evaluator in about a year - then headed over to the C-141 - aircraft commander, instructor - air refueling instructor - low level air drop instructor - basically - not sure I want to sit in the right seat of anyones jet for the next 10 to 15 years. The pay at republic in particular is very reasonable and with many at the company heading to the majors in the next few years it seems a great place to be. I'm also thinking if I do well by them with my added experience there might be a check airman's job down the line - and I'm assuming as with most airlines they make a certain amount per hour above the highest paid captain.

I do have my apps out with FEDEX and SWA and if they called I chat things over with my wife and take a look at things. Right now - it's more important to me to get back in the left seat - (no offense I just feel more comfortalbe betting on my decisions vs having to try and talk someone else into "doing the right thing" when the ******************** hits the fan - its just a preference at this point.

Finally - which should have been up at the top - Family - my wife has slugged around with me all over the place while in the Air Force and last year up in Alaska - she found a great development job at a local college here in Saratoga - one that pays around $70K and if she stays for three or more years the kids get a free college education - at one of 580 colleges - basically - they get in - and the college pays for them - thats a huge savings and so I can take a look at doing a job that I can climb the ladder a bit faster and bid the better lines faster - I'm in a different position than most - in terms of my "timing" for the regionals - and for different reasons than most. The other thing is if I do get hired and find its not what I'm looking for - I'll have a few years of recent experience in glass cockpits - I mean the 206 I was flying up in Alaska this summer had more updated instruments than anything I flew in the Air Force - so there's my long winded answer.

I will also say this - the best flying job I ever had - was the one I had that day. Thanks for all the comments and keep them coming.

IMHO---

A regional may stable today, but don't count on stability tomorrow. You do not want to make a flying career out of a sub-contractor. We get traded like baseball cards. Save yourself the frustration and put in for the big boys. You have the experience and it would be worth commuting for. Don't waste your time in our world.

Just my .02c

No problem "Mr.I just feel more comfortalbe betting on my decisions" it can be forwarded to HR and the CP's office.
