Any news on the soon to be announced Gulfstream 6XX. I have heard it will have a bigger cabin, and somehow, bigger windows. Sounds great. Supposed to be announced at NBAA next week.

A little bigger cabin, less performance and smaller windows. Those current windows aren't going to continued to be grandfathered by the FAA-no way, no how. It's amazing they made it to the 550.

Cabin width will increase by at least 12 inches, height increase has not been released, performance will be similar to the G550 as the current BR710 family of engines which is rated at 15,385 lbs thrust on the G550 can be used at ratings up to 22,500 lbs thrust. Large oval windows will be used. The current GV/G550 windows were tested to 10 atmospheres pressure absolute during FAA Part 25 certification.

GV would that be the G with the blue stripe on the tail that I saw in SAV? From a distance something looked different.., The tail looked redesigned..
?

I also heard they were shooting for true 7,000 mi. range. We'll see. Even if it's just bigger and has the same performance of the 550, that will be fine with me.TC

10 atmospheres? 147 psi?

I hope it is announced at NBAA, I'll be there ... I can make a little note in my logbook/diary. It's been more than nine years since the GV was announced and with the GLEX catching up and the Falcon 7X approaching delivery schedule, Gulfstream will need a new announcement to remain the unquestionable industry leader. (read: my opinion)

Regarding the windows, I'm pretty sure it's not the size of the window (the large oval) but rather the structure around the emergency exit windows that is the limiting factor. GVFlyer can chime in if I'm wrong, no hard feelings.

Gulfstream has used the same oval window/emergency exit throughout the production history. The emergency exit is the same size and shape of the large oval window and that is smaller than a normal emergency exit and, I believe, smaller than the Part 25 rule requires.

I'm thinking that if Gulfstream changed the emergency exit that would change the fuselage structure and require re-certification, fatigue testing, corrosion testing/control and really the whole shebang as it relates to the Gulfstream fuselage structure. I believe that's why the GII, GIIB, GII-TT, GII-SP, GIII (AC & DC), GIV, GIV-SP, G300, G400, GV, GV-SP, G350, G450, G500 and G550 are all built on the same type certificate ... A12EA ... even though they require three different pilot type ratings.

Yes.

The GV pressure vessel was required to be tested at only 17.5 psid, but the company took it to nearly 9 times that with no failure. No Gulfstream has ever had a blow-out as a result of a passenger window failure.

Sec. 25.365 - Pressurized compartment loads.

For airplanes with one or more pressurized compartments the following apply:

(a) The airplane structure must be strong enough to withstand the flight loads combined with pressure differential loads from zero up to the maximum relief valve setting.

(b) The external pressure distribution in flight, and stress concentrations and fatigue effects must be accounted for.

(c) If landings may be made with the compartment pressurized, landing loads must be combined with pressure differential loads from zero up to the maximum allowed during landing.

(d) The airplane structure must be designed to be able to withstand the pressure differential loads corresponding to the maximum relief valve setting multiplied by a factor of 1.33 for airplanes to be approved for operation to 45,000 feet or by a factor of 1.67 for airplanes to be approved for operation above 45,000 feet, omitting other loads.

I continually hear people referring to the "Grandfathering" of Gulfstream's trademark large oval windows, but anyone who checks the Type Certificate will find see the only window "Equivalent Safety" finding is concerning the Horizontal Axis (as opposed to vertical axis) Emergency Exit windows.

my boss, a multiple 550 owner, was invited to sav this summer for a dinner with gulfstream mgt and some other billionairs. the hush-hush topic of the meeting was to generate interest in a possible new aircraft (g600) the figures they offered were as follows: size of an md80; 9000 mi range @ M95. sound friggin nuts, but thats what he told us.

Where do I sign up to fly one?????

$70 million? Awesome if the G folks can do it. I'd like to see Dassault's and Bombardier's response a year after. The envelope keeps growing.

Hey, if it's that big, bring it on. No more trying to screw around with ASE on a crappy day... ;) TC

If so than it won't be long until they put 40-50 seats in it and market it to the airlines as an all ellite class international airliner.
$10,000 round trip should do it.

While all you GV drivers are in here, can you tell me a ball park figure for a GV left seat in the Boston area.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Why would you need 9,000 mile range? Who the hell would want to be in a tube that long anyway. M.95, I would love to see the wing design.

If anyone could do it Gulfstream or Lockheed would be the two I would have my money on (if it is to be done right, anyway).
