I find this to be a pretty large problem -- Captains treatintg F.O.'s like its 1950's in a DC-8 with no idea of CRM. Do all of you ego maniac captains realize two heads are better than one?????? I undertand at times some of the F.O's out there now a-days are unexperienced.. And who also is sick of hearing the infamous "WHEN I WAS HIRED I HAD 4000 hours". My comment should be, "And despite that, you're still at a f'ing regional buddy." But, ofcourse i sit still and say nothing... I think in the responses to this post it will be ovious if you sit left or right.... I just hope there are a few captains that realize that they are not god, and they dont know everything and since they are ofcourwse 100% correct, why does the FAA require two pilots.. I just hope everytime a Captain blurts out a stupid idotaic, "You need to keep the speed up". When its bumpy as hell out there, they can sit on their hands and shut the hell up.

Oh yea whats with
Never calling sever turb. If its bad call it that, for christ sake, why does every pilot need to show how big their balls are and call everything light or moderate, my gosh if it is abd enough for the autopilot kicks off, then i mean geez.... you are only screwing over other pilots in the area that dont know of the bad air around......... this industry is full of people with too big of ego's!!!

I almost sympathized with your post until you made the comment, ""My comment should be, "And despite that, you're still at a f'ing regional buddy.""
Just curious, why should the fact that you work at a regional make any difference? The aforementioned issue is occasionally the same and will only get worse if you move beyond the "regional" level. It has nothing to do with type of operation you fly in. It comes with the territory. By the way, the last time I read the F.A.R.'s, someone has to be the P.I.C. I want the P.I.C. on the flights that I am a passenger on to have an EGO--one that is in check, course!

Geez! Yeah! And like, when some clown from the tower at East Butthole Regional Airport asks for a braking action report and I don't know cuz I didn't use like the brakes and all, so I'm like, wtf?

It's a game.

When tower reiterates "MODERATE turbulence reported on final," in that deliberate way that makes your pink winker eat the seat, do you expect anything other than severe?

I've thanked a grizzled, muh-HISERABLE old fart for closing an airport due to nil braking- after a brow-beating from dispatch and a CP that would have made a junior puke scared enough to try to leave. Sometimes just having a nice cup of STFU and learning from these guys will save us the trouble of going through the "oh, shyt" scenario they did. Sometimes not- if it ain't safe, speak up. Do your job, get better at it every day, and be the captain you'd love to fly with when you take a crack at the title.

Severe
Turbulence that causes large, abrupt changes in altitude and/or attitude. It usually causes large variations in indicated airspeed. Aircraft may be momentarily out of control. Report as Severe Turbulence. 1
Occupants are forced violently against seat belts or shoulder straps. Unsecured objects are tossed about. Food Service and walking are impossible.

DrewBlows, Thank you for educating Fowingman. It must be a chore to fly with such an inexperienced FO. Fowingman sounds like the type that gives incorrect PIREPS because he has no real world experience to fall back on. Listen to your captains...you might actually learn something. I know I did.

Maybe you could enlighten yourself with the definition of "severe turbulence."
