Interviewing with Comair. Despite the flaming responses I expect on here anyone care to share info on the interview. Ive heard they are very particular about who they hire and the interview although impressive is fairly difficult.

Well, let's see. You've got a CRJ and an ERJ type. You've worked for (and resigned from) Mesa and Xjet. And you've asked for gouge for TSA and GoJets.

Whatever. Anyway, the interview is standard. the sim ride is the deal-breaker. In your case, I'd go rent one before the interview.

there is no sim ride. Right now they can't get people to come here. You will have no problems
That's what I'm showing on my invite. No sim ride, just the brief, Cog test, and interview.
One gouge I saw from willflyforfood.cc in September quotes them saying they wish they could hire every interviewee. The bar has definitely been lowered.

why? do u not listen on whats going on with Comair?

Duuuuuuuuude, LIVE IN THE NOW!

just kidding, had to throw in a typcial FI response.

Good Luck!

Look at the bright side...you might avoid a furlough because people are leaving at a faster rate than Delta can take our flying away.

What's the time table from submitting on airline apps to interview date looking like right now? Finally hit the 1200 mark.

I imagine most newhires are going to CVG and JFK, as GSO and MCO do not have much movement. There is no sim ride, just an interview and the computer cog test. I found the interview to be professional yet fairly relaxed; they just want to know who you are and if you could get through training with little difficulty. Because of attrition we are looking to hire as many as we can, so if you meet the minimums or are even a little short, be sure to send in a resume.

I faxed a resume a while back and never heard anything. Is it better to do the airline apps application? I despise airline apps. takes forever.

Call HR or Fax... they can't get people as there is a 90% chance you will be furloughed in the next 90 days. As long as you have a pulse and a license they'll take you.

But why on earth would you come here? I just flew with two new hires just off IOE. One was a former intern and the other is married to someone who is already here. I'll give those two a gimme, but for the rest.... what are you stupid? Please go to Mesa or CHQ, we don't need anymore "they were the first to call, or beats instructing" guys here! Apparently we already have 50% + 6 of those!

If they are so sure they are going to furlough why are they hiring? I am beginning to wonder if anybody knows anything anymore. After all 2 years ago everybody swore up and down piedmont was going out of business and that USAIR was going to just get worse and worse, it never really happened. Who has the crystal ball here thats right?

we don't need anymore "they were the first to call said:
I am not one of those. I have a bunch of friends living in CVG that fly for Comair. One of them even has an extra room available. But I realize the chances of getting CVG are pretty slim. I am also taking the chance that Comair will weather the storm that seems to be building. It has always been on my list of regionals to work for.

Their website says to expect 10 to 12 months on reserve. That's a long time to only have minumum days off.

What's the upgrade time, about 6 years?

Apply! Interview! As someone who left there recently (June) I can vouch for the pilot force being an excellent group. Sure there are divisions. You have that everywhere. The place is better than good, the training far better than the competition (my opinion) and the people are great. Stress is high now but, endure - it was definately worth it for me. I left for a big jet at a big outfit.
Back to the original thread. The HR portion of the interview is a get to know you with technical questions thrown in by a Capt. If you miss one don't worry. That's part of the process too - them seeing how you react. No one's perfect. There will be technical questions so, study the AIM and some -121 rules. Get to know the company too.
As for a commute from PHX. It is definately doable. I remember a guy who commuted that route for about 5 or 6 years before he left for SWA last year!
Good luck! It is worth the effort.

I'm going on 18 months and no end to reserve in sight.I know people who ahve been here 2 years on reserve.

Reserve is over three years in CVG right now. Pretty absurd. There aren't enough FO's in JFK to cover the hours in Nov, only new hires on reserve.

FO reserve - 18 months + 89 days of the strike.
CA reserve - 3 year 5 months and going, and going.
Being displaced back to the right seat for the second time in a year - priceless!

Oh btw: most lineholders are getting min days off or close to it now that the bid packets are so unproductive.

I commuted to CVG from PHX for almost 3 years. There were 3 or 4 of us doing it at the time...I can only speak for myself, but it was enough to make me hate flying for a living. The time zone changes were tough to do on a weekly basis and it was very hard to get 4 day trips that were "PHX commutable" on both ends. Any release after about 8pm was another night in a hotel/crashpad. I often had to two leg it home through LAS after a 5 leg day with an early get up....2 or 3 days later I'd be back on a plane...it was very rare to be able to commute in on day 1 of your trip and home on day 4. CD's were an exception, but that hurts the body after a while. I'm sure this is typical of anyone's commuting situation, but for me it certainly was not a long term solution....commuting to reserve would be very very hard to do with Comair...I would never have even tried that.

Were the initials of the guy who went to Southwest K.A??

Good luck.

Yes, I knew he commuted but not so much about the difficulty. Commutes for any company can be frustrating. I had a two-legger to CVG and now have a two legger to ANC
