I remember there used to be a provision in the FARs that would allow me to remove type ratings from my license. Does anyone know if that still exists? I am considering removing the all the types from my license and retiring.

?????.......Just park your a$$ in the nearest lazyboy with a cold beer!

Voila....now you are retired!

You have something against the printed words on the license? They are not talking to you late at night are they? :)

OK

No, but I have retired NINE times, and I want to make sure I do not get the urge to come back into this industry. I may even demote myself to a private pilot, single engine if I can do that too. Anybody know for certain??

You've retired nine times and come back. Well either you really love to hate it or the other side has not been greener as thought. How bout getting a shrink and then you could use that to get your medical revoked because I think your crazy.

Jeff--Keep your type ratings. Just do this: Every time the business phone rings, come to FI and ask us if you should take the trip. After we beat you up a few times, you'll lose the urge to answer the phone... ;) TC

Man, I understand your dilemma. It's too bad you can't fly and have a personal life at the same time. Yes, you can surrender type ratings. Call the FSDO and they'll tell you how.

Here's the FAR that covers this type of action. Good luck to you.

Sec. 61.27 Voluntary surrender or exchange of certificate.

(a) The holder of a certificate issued under this part may voluntarily
surrender it for:
(1) Cancellation;
(2) Issuance of a lower grade certificate; or
(3) Another certificate with specific ratings deleted.
(b) Any request made under paragraph (a) of this section must include the
following signed statement or its equivalent: "This request is made for my
own reasons, with full knowledge that my (insert name of certificate or
rating, as appropriate) may not be reissued to me unless I again pass the
tests prescribed for its issuance."

This is the craziest post Ive ever read... I could never through away something I worked so hard to acheive. Just say no..man! Just say no. Drink 10 red bulls and then go get your medical renewed. Your blood pressure will be through the roof!

Do something to get your license revoked. Then after year aplly for a pvt SEL, if wanted

You obviously jest. Anyone who would surrender their hard-earned certificates just to be "retired" is insane. Especially since you attempted retirement 9 times. Besides, you can whip it out and impress the chicks at the old age home - you're close to being put out to pasture with 23K.

Have fun and retire with the privileges!

Just fly your next flight under a bridge, "buzz the tower" or take them sightseeing downtown, and voila, no ratings. Just make sure it makes the news cycle, I want to see it.

Jeff,
Why not look for a King Air job with a company that only operates about 150 or 200 hours per year with most trips not overnight. To fly and manage an operation like this would be a good way to wind down a long flying career.
Just a thought.

Would someone go pull Jeff out of the sun?

GVJeff,
Didn't you just post a message within the past week on NBAA Airmail (again) looking for a full-time job?

Jeff...
Send your pilot certificate and medical certificate to me and I'll put them in my safety deposit box. I'll give them back to you when you sober up.
