I have accident 11 years ago. FAA already expunged the record.
Should I still have to put check mark on the pilot applications?

I would call the FAA and verify the record has been expunged. If it has been then put 'No' on your applications.

I would say that you should because even though the faa may not have a record of the accident, it could come up when your future company submits your personal information to their insurance company.

An accident may not be all bad. It gives you something to explain in the interview process as well as what you have learned from your mistake.

Best of luck to you.

Most applications say " Have you ever had an accident". Just to be safe answer truthfully. I know my company would give you chance to address it in the interview. Just my two cents.

Have you ever had an accident? Put yes. The question doesn't say, have you had an accident only in the last 5 years?

But don't worry, we have people at our company who have had an accident - explain it away and don't say "but it wasn't our fault" and you'll be fine.

id put YES! be honest be honest be honest.....it will not hurt you!

I can assure you the NTSB hasn't. Is your question, Should I lie in my application? Deep inside you know the answer to that one.

What they want to know during the interview is not that you are perfect, but that you have learned from the experience

if the airline does the freedom of information on u to the FAA it will get every single ********************ing piece of paper the faa has in their file, I don't see why the FAA would expunge the record.... Plus, the insurance company might do a check too...???

No, you shouldn't "have to," but it would be wise to answer the question truthfully...not by what the Feds know about you. Information gets around by references. This business is littered with the pink slips of those who failed to answer the question truthfully.

Best wishes,

A good friend of mine once told me about a story about sitting on an interview panel. The applicant had checked "no" to this question on his application (saying that he had never had an aircraft accident) when about half way through the interview my friend remembered why that guy seemed familiar to him. They had both worked for the same 135 operations years before and he remembered that the applicant had crashed a plane there (ran out of fuel short of the runway). So his first question during the interview was "Tell us about the time you ran out of fuel and explain why you lied on your application"
Needless to say he did not get the job.
