Lately we've been hiring into BOS and DFW for the Embraer. SJU is always a possibility. That one's hit or miss though.

What are the odds of the jet out of training? (not that I have SJS, just looking for an ORD base)

My buddy interviewed Tuesday and got the job. He said that there were 11 people interveiwing and 8 got the job. He had below 1,000 total and just above 100 multi.
They go by age when they pick the aircraft and base so if you are 40 you have a good chance to get what you want.
While if you are 22 then your going to be getting the last pick. But the up side to being 22 is that the womenthat you go after are generally better looking with less sag. But hey there are some suprises out there.

What's the rationale behind age and aircraft assignment?

What they (and most airlines) do is assign seniority within a new-hire class by age (oldest = most senior). The idea is that the older folks have less time to work before age 60. The most senior people then get to pick their aircraft and/or domiciles first from the openings that company has at that time.

A few airlines use some random number (like SSN's) to assign new-hire seniority.
