With all of the discussion about the status of negotiations and the latest meetings, I thought it was important to step back from the immediate timeframe and understand what the company has done to try to reach an agreement. The negotiations haven’t been a simple process, but despite
claims to the contrary, we really do want to reach an agreement and an agreement that works for both of us. That’s a balance that is anything but easy to achieve but it is a balance we must find together if we are to be competitive going forward and provide a quality career for our pilots.

To be able to grow and effectively compete we must have predictable costs, something we don’t have today without an agreement. Conversely, we can’t be burdened with uncompetitive costs just for the sake of an agreement. Both of those conditions result in unsuccessful outcomes.

Late last year, I committed to you that the company would make every effort to push these negotiations to closure. I believe we have done just that. Since December 2005 the company has taken a number of steps, often unilaterally, to remove barriers to progress and move forward.

•
In attempt to remove the time consuming negotiation method of section-by-section, the
company put forward a comprehensive contract proposal last year.

•
We changed some dynamics at the negotiating table so communications could be easier and
less strained. Specifically, we changed our legal representation at the request of ALPA.

•
We instituted changes in crew scheduling to improve the relationship between schedulers and
pilots – a relationship in our industry that has historically been difficult. We continue to
work towards further improvement.

•
Last fall, the company backed away from its previous position requiring pre-conditions to
enacting ASAP (Aviation Safety Action Program), essentially meeting ALPA’s demands.
We are committed to providing you with an ASAP program, however, we cannot move
forward without ALPA’s participation.

•
The company instituted CASS (Cockpit Access Security System), which gives pilots
enhanced access to the jump seat on other carriers.

•
This past spring, ASA initiated the informal talks that led to resolving Sections 13
(Scheduling) and 24 (Filling of Vacancies) which will result in significant lifestyle
improvements that we believe are important to you.

•
This summer, the company unilaterally elected to distribute restricted stock grants to our
pilot workforce. We didn’t tie their inclusion to our negotiations or any other condition,
other than the basic conditions of years of service.

•
Twice this summer, we took the initiative to open informal discussions that we had hoped
would provide an environment that would put us on a path to an agreement.

•
ALPA has taken the position that they will not conduct further discussions without the
involvement of the mediator. As a result, the company approached the mediator and asked
him to bring the parties back together. The mediator held a status conference to assess any
changes in the parties’ positions since he had recessed negotiations in May. During this
session, the company provided a new proposal that we believe provides significant
enhancements while also meeting the industry economics. After receiving ALPA’s response,
the mediator concluded the parties were still too far apart to warrant resuming formal
negotiations.
While many of you have heard conflicting “facts” regarding our actions or proposals – and will probably continue to hear them – I felt it was important to summarize our commitment to creating an environment that would enhance our combined ability to conclude negotiations swiftly. While that solution has been elusive, we are not deterred and will continue to work with
your representation to reach a successful outcome. I believe we need an honest, positive and constructive dialogue if we are to reach an agreement. I promise to do all I can to provide a path for productive negotiations that can provide a stable future for all of us, that includes opportunity for personal growth, professional growth, stock appreciation and secures ASA a future in this dynamic industry.

In closing, I would like to take a moment to thank all of you - our professional aviators - for what you do for this company and our customers every day. I appreciate your dedication in support of our operation. It is instrumental in achieving what we all want - a safe, reliable and high quality experience for our customers.

Thank you again.

Why is it "koolaid" if management says something, and it is the gospel truth if ALPA says something.

DOOOUUUCHEEEE!!!!

Where in the heck did I say ALPA talk was GOSPEL???!!!

Company talk is Kool-Aid.

Alpa talk is a Negotiation Update.

Got it??

Ahhhhhh now I'm informed! Those dang ALPA union pukes! What's wrong with you people? Don't you see that BL's sincere, and wants to get this done? C'mon now, accept that you won't be getting a raise for, let's see, the past 4 years, 1-2 years to get this contract done still, and then, hmmm, another 4-5 years to get the next contract done, so, what, 10-11 years? What's not to like? Just because BL got 7-800K in stock for the great job he's doing shouldn't influence you, nor the profits ASA continues to rake in.

Oh, that bull about PSB, that was just an excuse for those union negotiators to put out to you weasel pilots! The company doesn't really want to change the scheduling section now that's it been TA's, huh Brian, say it's so Brian, please Brian, tell the pilots it ain't so!

VOTED IN FAVOR! ...because BL is fulla manure!

"koolaid" comes from that Jamestown guy in S. America. Kinda like following eachother off a cliff. That IS coming from both sides, not just a company term...

It's not koolaid to management pukes like you ASADrivel! You believe it (BL) fine. Don't expect us to. How come he bragged about scheduling being done, but didn't bring up PSB, huh asaDrivel?

Quoting Bryan...
During this session, the company provided a new proposal that we believe provides significant enhancements while also meeting the industry economics.

Bryan,
No disrepect but 'significant enhancements' hardly describe the new proposal. You have masterfully taken profits out of the equation, and it's almost been successful for a large part of the pilot group (not representative of those ASA pilots represented on this board). However, moving up .25% while ALPA came down 2% and 'offering' us things that we already have (100% deadhead comes to mind) doesn't fall under 'significant' in my book.

We are the most profitable regional airline in the business. Why SkyWest wants to dismantle us is beyond me. So if that isn't the case, then moving the aircraft over is a negotiation ploy, one that most of recognize. Asking us to take cuts or even maintain the status quo so that we can continue to be Jerry's cash cow is not what I am willing to work hard for.

Modest improvements to pay, profit sharing (as you've currently offered even), improvements to scheduling, duty rigs etc are a fair offer given the financial performance we've demonstrated for years and years. If SkyWest is more efficient than us (Scott's words), then give us the chance to maximize our efficiency (and not by cutting our pay). Wrap this up with a reasonable offer and lets get down to making some real money. We can turn the 43 million a qtr into 60-80 million IF YOU WOULD LET US BE AN EFFICIENT PARTNER.

I still believe Jerry can make this happen without turning it into a Union vs Managment argument. We might even believe you Bryan if you would just start valuing our contribution to the ASA Cash Cow machine.

You seem to believe everything ALPA tells you. Why is it "koolaid" with management, but an "update" with ALPA. Any chance ALPA is twisting the facts also? ALPA isn't as pure as you think, got it?????

An ALPA negotiator said that the PBS was what stopped the deal based on the companies last offer. PBS is the wave of the future, if that is all that is holding things up, then get over it and lets keep our 70s.

If I'm a "management puke", then you are an ALPA "puke". You seem to believe everything ALPA says. That is stupid. ALPA has an agenda as does management. PBS is coming one way or the other. It is the wave of the future. Lets take it, and settle this, and move on. Transferring our jobs to non-union Skywest isn't going to help anyone.

An ALPA negotiator said that the PBS was what stopped the deal based on the companies last offer. PBS is the wave of the future, if that is all that is holding things up, then get over it and lets keep our 70s.

Yeah, let's throw out the whole scheduling section that's already been agreed on because the Company changed their mind on PBS, something said they weren't at all interested in for the first 3 and a half years of negotiations. Maybe we should just give in on our pay too. I mean, if that's all that is holding things up we should just get over it and watch our 70s go to SkyWest.

Didn't the company proposal give us a year and half to negotiate PBS? Small price to get this done and stop our flying from being transferred to Skywest. Tell me shamrock, what good is our currently negotiated scheduling section if we lose a bunch of flying to Skywest?

If PBS is the way of the future, then why did ASA mananagment answer no three times to ALPA's question about the company wanting PBS in the new agreement?

Now that they realize that accepting PBS would wipe out our entire TA'd section 13, they're suddenly interested. Funny how that works.

I don't care what happened in the past. We can't live in the past, we need to work towards the future. Both sides have made mistakes up until this point. There isn't anything "funny" about this. Skywest has PBS. Delta has PBS. CMR has PBS. Why is ASA ALPA so opposed to PBS. Almost every other carrier has PBS.

So you're admitting that BL is lying re his koolaid letter today because he didn't bring up PSB as part of what stopped negoiations the last goaround, huh asaDrivel?
