Currious.

Have any of you started a business on the side of what you do? I don't mean having gotten a second job but actually started your own business/store or something like that outside of your flying job.

What sort of store/business is it and how hard was it to get it going at first? How hard is it to keep it going when things are going fine? I suppose it was easy for those of you with a business degree (i really dont know for sure) but for those that were just pilots and wanted more...how hard was it? Is the payoff worth it?

Side biz A. Flying corporate aircraft.
Side Biz B. Getting ready to begin shoeing horses. (Once the biz gets up and running, I might need to put in an order for some of those midgets yer sellin.)

Yer post was lookin a little lonely.

Take care.

I am looking into the idea of a somewhat upscale jazz/cigar/martini bar that caters to the wealthy- we shall see if it look as good in reality as it does on paper. (:D )

I have always had a very strong interest in property management so who knows.... I am looking into various things but trying to minimize the loss potential (if that is at all possible)

time shall tell

I do computer coding for a friend of mine who spams the **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** out of the world. seems like each month the ISP's and backbones of the world crack down a bit more and make it harder and harder to scan for relays and crap so he sends me a list of problems, i figure out solutions, send him back the instructions and some programs to bypass all the ISP's and that way he can hit about 5 to 6 million accounts in an hour. I know you all probably hate unsolicited mail but there is so much money to be made. He makes about 10,000 a week and I get a pretty fair percentage of that. The hardest software to crack however is MSN's new brightsig software. But we managed to do it!

ohhhh...so youre the one.

I check my email and i see about 5 messages a day saying how to make my penis bigger.

are you telling us youre the one that makes this possible?
(i mean the email i get not the penis thing actually working)

Lrjetcaptain,

It doesn't bother you that almost everyone on the planet despises what you're doing? It doesn't make a difference to you that ISP's spend a great deal of time and money trying to stop what you're doing? All that matters to you is that you make money doing it, so it's cool. That's a pretty admirable credo you have there, pal. Tell me, when you look in the mirror in the morning, are you proud of the guy looking back? If you are, you've get a pretty sad set of priorities.

just to defend myself. I don't spam, i never have and i never will. Im annoyed just as much as you are by them all but think about it, everytime i goto the real mailbox i have mail i dont want, do you all get up in arms and get all pissed at them too, credit card here credit card there blah blah blah.....i know where you are all coming from. but its all a business. Its money man. What i do is just delete it. I dont spam like i said. I just give this guy a tool that will allow him to do so. IM sorry about all that.

Those are about the lamest rationalizations I've seen in a while.

>>>>I dont spam like i said. I just give this guy a tool that will allow him to do so.

Oh, please, you're taking a direct, active role in bypassing the spam prevention measures for the sole purpose of spreeading spam. the fact that someone else is actually hitting the send button is just weaseling.

>>>>Its money man.

Uhh, yeah, so's selling crack and pimping teenage runaways. Money doesn't have any bearing on whether you're doing someting that is reprehensible.

Look pal, the fact that you sent me a PM trying to explain how the Spam really isn't your fault, and how your conscience is clean, suggests that you have a nagging feeling deep inside that is telling you this really isn't something respectable or honorable. Listen to that voice.

exactly, i dont care much for it myself....but he doens't spam penis nor porn crap. Its advertisement and i laugh when i say it cause im sure ill get attacked but the net is open man. Its open to basically do what ever is in the power of computer server backbone etc..... lets just drop this, i can see where you are all coming from. I didn't mean to get myself in another flightinfo pickle of attacking me but it hapens.

I've done a lot of crazy/stupid stuff flying, but messing with Vne isn't one! The end comes fast as the pieces begin shedding - I'd imagine there's minimal pain after blacking out, pulling 10-20 g's... I saw it once at Reno. I stay very clear of that monster.

holy **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**, lets atttack me even more....
however....VNE is the speed at which you never exceed hence you dont fly over that speed hence the airplane is still in tact hence your still flying within the limitations of the airplane. I dont recall saying VNE +1 knot. VNE....it is a goal. the point of an airplane is to go from point a to point b as fast as possible in most cases. Last time i checked allows me to fly VNE/VMO and no more and still operate within structural boundries of my aircraft as long as im flying within smooth air.

How did Vne jump into this, and somebody please tell me how Vne applies a 20 G load that causes the airplane to break up while I black out with minimal pain the face of the "monster."

Huh??

Wasn't this a thread about side-businesses?

Spam is bad. But at least he doesn't own a krispy kreme franchise. Now that's evil.

i wouldn't want to go to Vne in any airplane i have ever flown, or have my family on any aircraft close to that speed. if you have ever seen or smelled an aircrash you would agree

Hope you didn't take my comments wrong, lrjtcpt, I really appreciate those who push the envelope. I'm always grateful for those folks who fly around in Super RV's or Harmon Rockets pushing beyond Vne regularly. Makes me feel better flying my normal RV just below it. Don't fly under bridges or too close to Vne - just one of those things beyond *my* comfort limit.

Avbug - reread what I said. the pieces come off, the plane flops around and *then* you see 10-20 g's. it came from someone jabbing lrjtcpt on his credo (what I assumed was his statement about Vne). even if this isn't what they meant, it was on the post so it's fair game.

Just to clarify, my comments about lrjtcapt's credo referred to his stated belief that If something makes him money, it's ok regardless of other considerations.

LrjtCapt: If you were a locksmith, would you make duplicate keys for a friend, knowing that he used them to commit burglary? Would you still consider yourelf innocent, because you didn't actually open the door? THe law wouldn't veiw you as innocent, you'd be considered an accessory to a felony, which is a crime in itself.

You're may be right, you may not breaking any laws, or maybe you are just breaking laws which are very difficult to enforce due to the nature of hte internet. Either way, what you are doing is sleazy, and is despised by almost everyone on the planet with an e-mail account. Pepole don't want this crap shoved down thier throats, and you're taking an active role in bypassing thier efforts to prevent it.

its all good....i dont ever fly near vne/vmo ever. Just a quote one of my old instructors told me once back in the day. I thought it was funny a while back and still use that quote yet, im usualy about 20kts slower in the KA and BE58 and in rough air, well, keep me clear of the yellow arc in that ball game.

a squared....the locksmith anology yet a good one is far off from this. I code. What he does isn't illegal. Have you ever walked to the mail box and gotten an advertisement and coupons, those are unsolicited....do you get all pissed off at them or just the email. i agree, i average about 30 spams a day, and i delete them. I look at it as something that comes with the territory of having an email address. im sorry you are all pissed off about this. But if its coming from my software, its not gonna be nasty spam like porn etc.....its basicaly random adds....money to be made.......if you dont want the spam get a good isp. dont do msn, aol, etc....they are too easy to scan.

Even though I run the risk of getting flamed for actually sticking to the topic, I'm self-employed as a property title researcher. It's very sporadic, but each search takes about 30 minutes to an hour at the county courthouse and they pay $140 each. Too bad I only get about one or two a week.
