The Yankee Air Forces' home at YIP burned to the ground tonight. Fortunately they were just putting the B-17 away for the winter when the fire was discovered so there was a group of members at the hangar. The crew got the B-17, the B-25 and the C-47 out of the hangar before the fire made it impossible to reenter the hangar. The C-47 was pushed out by hand. If you wanted to save three things, that would be the three things. A rare F-105 and OV-10 static display airplanes were lost.

Sorry for your loss, Randy!

Hope nobody was injured.

no one hurt

Thank for the inquiry Jeff, we were very lucky that the fire was discovered when people had the hangar doors open and the tug running, smoke filled the hanger in 10 minutes. If they had not been there, we could lost the flyables

This was a great loss in Yip. There were many dedicated folks that spent years keeping this museum and the aircraft up and running over the years. My condolence's go out to all those folks for this loss of aviation history and hard work.

Man, that is horrible to hear. Gonna be a strange sight when we taxi over to Active. Glad there were people on hand to get the planes out of harms way.

Wankel
