It's a sad day for Willow Run. The Yankee Air Museum is burning - probably to the ground.

I saw this large plume of smoke while I was driving home. Turned on the radio - they said it was from the museum. I went by the airport, and sure enough - heavy fire showing.

Picture I took

It was from across the airport, about a mile and a half away - and it was a huge fire from there. I have some pictures zoomed in, but it was getting dark and they are blurrier.

My god....so much history in that building, extremely sad. That is an incredible fire.... A sad day for the YIP community.

According to the news they got the B-25, C-47, and the B-17 out.

Keep in mind that comes from the media, so who knows what really happened.

Article in paper

Here is an article from the Detroit Free Press:

The local NBC station just had a nice piece on what the museum had, with nice video of the airplanes flying. The video included cool in-airplane shots from the B-25.

They also said that the those three planes mentioned above made it out. I hope so - they are really pieces of history.
