Website says you guys are accepting applications. Are there still guys on the street or have they been recalled?
 
In another thread an XOJETer made it clear that no pilots were furloughed - they were fired. End of relationship.

Apparently some hiring - maybe for incoming 300's?
 
so they fire a lotta pilots to cut down on staff and now they wanna hire new pilots?


sounds like a first class operation....
 
Don't apply then, I've got lots of friends trying to get on... Plus your furrrrrblowed NJA, you need not apply anyway. (Just being real, no offense)

Yes we are accepting applications. 2 more 300's coming in March/April, more coming later in summer...

I think I should clarify my previous post... I'm not being hateful towards "furrrrblowed NJA" pilots, Opec's words, not mine... I don't need hate PM's from NJA pilots thinking that I'm jabbing at them, I'm not. I was just being real saying that NJA pilots "probably" won't get interviews because they would go right back to NJA when recalled... Just being real.

Again, I wish all furloughed and "terminated" the best of luck!

I don't think there is an "ideal" candidate... We have pilots from all walks of the profession, Retired Airline, Military, LCC, Regional, Freight, CFI's, 135, 121, 91... Don't think we are looking for one type in particular. 135 time would probably help, but other than that, just meet the mins.

Cherry, the only thing you'll see me bash on here is Chaniqua / Repugnant, Johnny O, and General Lee about twice a year. I've got nothing against XOJet, but I think it's suspect when a company downsizes by canning pilots with no recall rights. I freely admit I don't have the whole story. Could be more to it.

You are probably right about XO not wanting to talk to NJA pilots, for reasons that are obvious to most of us.

What is amazing is that it is OK for companies to discriminate against very qualified pilots, whereas discrimination for most other reasons is illegal. I copied the definition to underscore that.

I can only imagine what it is like to be furloughed or layed off in these times, and I really feel bad for those in that situation.

On the other side of the argument, why in these hard times woud a company hire someone, invest the time and money to train and maintain this individual, if there is a VERY good chance that person will leave for the recall of their previous employer? Financially this isn't smart.

It would't make sense to legally force a company to hire every qualified person that applied, and I don't see that as discrimination. A company has the right to hire the person that best fits their needs, not the other way around. If any of you owned or managed a company you would not hire this individual either.

If NJ hadn't furlouged but just fired an individual, and XO had a pilocy of not hiring former NJ pilots, then I think that might be discrimination. This isn't the case and is not an actual policy at XO.

It is well known that Fed Ex likes to hire mostly former military, does that mean that they are discriminating against non military? No, it is just a hiring preference, and they have every right to do so.

Clyde, you make several good points. This is a slippery slope we're talking about here. I would expect there is no written company policy not to hire furloughed NJA guys, but a company's actions speak louder than any policy. I also agree that to legally force companies to hire certain groups doesn't do any party justice either. Think United hiring in the mid 80's..... The difference here is excluding a group of qualified applicants based on their past work experience and for having recall rights that are essentially worthless.

Right now, a company that advertises for current and qualified pilots in an aircraft that NJA flies is going to get several applications from furloughed NJA pilots. If we are given consideration for the position and none of us is hired, I submit that is not discrimination. If though out of X number of applicants a majority are furloughed NJA and none are interviewed, I believe that reeks of something.

As far as how this furlough is going, I'm only in a small part of the world, but....

Non aviation companies see "pilot" on your resume and walk away because they believe you will bail for the first flying job that comes your way. Aviation won't touch you for the reasons we've been beating to death here. Thankfully there have been exceptions to this. I believe pilotyip has hired some of our guys, and I know of some who've been hired for other jobs as well.

This is just my guess...

The timing of the NJ furlough (which is never good) is about a year behind the rest of the country. This puts you at the end of some very long lines. While being current in your aircraft can be a plus as compared to others that have been unemployed longer, others have had more exposure and more hunting time. What I'm getting at is that there are some 5000+ resumes in a pile at XO, and your statement above would make sense if NJ was the only company furloughing in all of aviation. XO isn't currently interviewing, and when we do, the first to get interviews will most likely be internal recs. So please don't think it is discrimination if XO does interview and no furloughed NJ guys get called.

If you do know somebody at XO, you probably have just as good a shot as anyone else when the hiring resumes... You are going to have to know someone to get an interview this year! There is no way around that I think...

Stopped in ADS yesterday, saw they moved the Cherry "fleet" from the city ramp. Sad sight. Is it true that another 20 is operational along with 218 ?
