There's a rumor floating around here that XJT pilots were offered nearly a contract nearly identical to CMR plus 10% and the negotiating committee turned it down. Have a hard time believing that, anyone on the inside want to give the real scoop?

I can say with 100% complete confidence that this is nothing but a ridiculous rumor with zero truth to it.

Actually, the blastmail didn't say that either. The blastmail said:

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. This is First Officer Neal Schwartz with the CALEX Negotiating Committee [NC] update for Friday, Mar. 5, 2004. There is 1 item for review.

Item 1: CALEX Negotiations

The NC negotiated all week in Washington, D.C., with ExpressJet management in bargaining sessions supervised by the National Mediation Board [NMB]. Also present for the pilot group were the CALEX Executive Administrator, CALEX SPC Chairman and our ALPA professional advisors. Discussions focused on Compensation, Scope/Job Security, Scheduling/Work Rules and Flight Instructors.

As reported on Wednesday, significant progress was made in some of those areas early in the week. More specifically, Retirement and Insurance/Benefits were completed. All Scheduling items remaining, except for the few but important “settlement package” issues, were resolved. The NC believed on Monday and Tuesday, therefore, that continued progress might pave the way to a possible settlement by the end of the week.

Negotiating sessions on Thursday and Friday concentrated on Compensation and Scope/Job Security issues. These talks raised substantial concern with the NC. In summary, the Company indicated at the end of the week that it does not intend to satisfactorily address pilot group proposals in the Scope/Job Security and Compensation areas.

Scope – Management stated that ExpressJet Holdings would not commit to use our contract for any new flying that it may perform. Management also refused to agree to ALPA proposals that would require the use of our contract if they purchased another operation and refused to address our no-furlough proposal.

Compensation – Despite attempts by the NC to talk constructively with the Company about the compensation package – in problem-solving discussions, package proposals and through two formal negotiating table proposals – management offered wage improvements that were far from acceptable. To be more specific, the Company’s last proposal offered a combination of rates and profit-sharing that totaled less than the compensation that Comair pilots will enjoy when new rates are effective there this June. Management’s last proposal on pay rates alone was significantly below even Comair’s pay rates. In June, Comair’s Captain rates for similar equipment are as much as 19% higher than ExpressJet’s and Comair’s First Officer’s rates are as much as 29% to 34% higher, depending on the longevity year.

Obviously, the total compensation proposal offered by management is far below the level of pay that our pilot group expects and has demanded. While the NC made additional efforts and a proposal to achieve an acceptable rate structure, management refused to respond to ALPA’s last proposal. Moreover, the Company had previously rejected ALPA’s last scope/job security proposal. Consequently, the mediator recessed negotiations late Friday afternoon.

The Company’s actions this week suggest that negotiations have reached a stage that is unfortunate. The NC made substantial efforts, in addition to those mentioned above, to find ways to conclude bargaining for a new agreement. The Company was unwilling to make similar moves.

As a result, at the MEC meeting next week, the NC will brief your elected representatives and make recommendations to raise pilot and public awareness and put in place the ALPA resources that will be required to reach a new agreement.

With the hard work and resolve of your pilot group, it will be good watching a pilot group accomplishing their goal of a fair and equitable contract.

The way I read the NC update is that mgt's "offer" would be more than CMR now but less than what they will make in June, including profit sharing, likely putting the actual pay rates in the neighborhood of CHQ. Sorry, Homey don't play that, try again!!!

We are not at the point of discussing specifics but given that June is not far off, that is our barometer at the moment, and not Comair's current pay rates. Management's last offer, as stated in the blastmail, when combining the rates plus what is typical of profit sharing, still does not even achieve Comair (June 04).

Just finished the PC today and am now official. Was speaking with my instructor, and he said that the NC and the MEC had wrapped up retirement. Does this mean that the negotiations are back on, or was this something that was completed before things cooled off a couple weeks back. Maybe Neal can fill us in.
