XJT Jumpseat Update
September 28, 2006

As you have read on CCS, beginning Friday, Sept. 29, at 1600 CST, we will no longer be able to accommodate pilots from most other airlines in our cockpit jumpseats. We may carry XJT, CAL, Colgan, Commutair, Gulfstream, Regions Air and Cape Air pilots in our cockpits because they are code-share partners and can be verified electronically.

This change will not affect our access to other airlines' cockpit jumpseats, however. We can still request and occupy the cockpit jumpseat on other CASS-approved airlines because they are able to view our pictures electronically. Unfortunately, many of our terminals cannot display pictures, so we cannot reciprocate until the terminals are upgraded.

Sorry about the jumpseat guys & gals, but if you commute on XJT, you'll need a seat in the back. Hopefully these terminals will be upgraded soon so the CASS system will work the way its supposed to!

This CASS digital photo snafu is going to screw a lot of commuters. ASA will have the same problem because every station that wasn't ex-Delta has the old green screen computers from 1970.

What I don't understand is why we can't use our passport as photo verfication at the stations that don't have digital picture capability? Seems like a perfectly reasonable compromise to me.

Simple solution: Get one laptop (old, used, referb., found in the street) with an internet based connection and have a secure web site that CASS can be viewed from. Even if you have one site for each airport for this, at least its somthing.

The TSA requires that each gate have access to the system. There are over 70 stations many with multiple gates that require updated hardware.

From express jet - Effective today, Monday, Oct. 2, the TSA issued an extension to the CASS program. This means that we will be able to continue carrying pilots from other airlines in our cockpit jumpseats without verifying their pictures at the gate. Verification of pilots through CASS using the pilots passports will remain in effect until Oct. 31
