Funny I thought you worked for Regions Air

Yes sir, XJT is one of the places to be! We're in agreement there. However, nice try on your flame. Try again next time. Next...........

You have to consider the effect on your LIFE, not just your job.

I put an app in at CAL about 6 months ago, wasn't really sure why at the time, but I did. They haven't called yet, and I am actually a bit relieved. The more I considered the move to CAL or to any other company, it just felt wrong for me. I am thinking I should just pull my app, to avoid the refusal if they do call to offer an interiew.

I like working at ExpressJet. The people here are great. Our management has brains and balls. More brains than at CAL at the moment for sure. We're treated fairly. Our planes are taken care of. Our training is excellent. The flying is not bad, and increasing in variety. The pay is enough to make me not want to leave at 7 years seniority. The more I thought about it I kept asking why would I leave, and the future money just wasn't enough of a reason, and the future money here may be pretty good too, depending on if the specific job you do.

I have been at ExpressJet since 2000. And I really think this company is still just on the launching pad, getting ready to go. No kidding. If you think we're just another regional, you have no idea how solid we are and how careful and well planned the place is run.

If I was a soldier and I had to choose between being assigned to one of two units, one with great equipment and supplies, and the other with less great equipment and less supplies, but the second had the superior leadership, I would want to go to war under the good leadership. The better leaders know how to use the resources they have to the maximum, the poor leaders with better resources waste them. That's how I feel about my company. That's why I am staying.

If you're able to join the DCI team after getting a raise, then your management has got to be doing something right! Hey, can you guys buy us before Johnny O does, we'd make a great team!!

BigShot,

That's what I've been saying. I love it here and am so hopeful that we can make the branded thing work. The ONLY reason that matters to me is because it will prove that we can be a stand-alone, CPA-free airline. If we have that, then I can feel comfortable riding out the next 28 years here.

Well, that DCI deal is only 10 airplanes. If it were more, then CAL would be allowed to see the prices we are charging Delta and get the same deal. It is entirely possible that the Delta deal was done at cost just to give those 10 planes something to do to pay for them and have the leases covered for a couple of years while we make the real profits elsewhere. I think it's kind of funny that the same operator is now being used by two different majors to compete against each other out of LAX to Mexico. 10 planes at little or no profit is better than handing them over to CHQ at gunpoint. Although we may be making a profit-- I just have no idea.

Well, I actually don't think we will ever be a CPA-free airline, but our future CPAs may be a lot bigger and better deals than the current CAL CPA. That's all I was saying.

I'll give you that, but it almost looks as if JR & Co. are hoping this gem really starts to shine. So shiny that we catch someone's eye enough that we merge with them. If that airline is anything other than another regional, then we (the pilots) just scored.

I agree with what you say and i love the thought of it, however, if a major carrier came in and bought us dont you think they would just make us their regional affiliate? The chances of a major carrier buying us and then mixing or even stapling the list is slim to none i think. That said i wish it would happen the way you say. Who knows this industry is pretty unreal nothing surprises me anymore.

The only way I could really envision a true merger would be if the branded thing really takes off...they order 190s and the operation gets even better. Longshot, yes. As I said before, I'd like nothing more than to stay here, so my positive thoughts usually end up morphing into things like this.

Hang in there! You will never enjoy the same level of comraderie and life on the bottom of anywhere sucks, but longterm you are better off! XJET seems like the place to be this week(or at this time.) However, like leaving home, going back would never be the same! Things will change!

I hope XJT never merges or is bought with/by any other company. And if anything, I hope we buy back our stock off the street and go private. All the stuff that has to do with being a public company is a big distraction to our leadership, if you ask me. I think JR spends half his life fending off private equity takeover attempts. And "scoring" is rarely how most pilots describe what happened to them after a merger--an airline merger, anyway.

I don't see that ever. There are far more attractive companies out there with establieshed clientel that offer much greater reduction in competition thru merger than little ole XJT. Not to mention that we have no real assets to buy. Even if we owned the EMB's (thank god we don't) they are not very sought after in the US.

former x-jet

well i will chime in here....former express 1999-2004...i left because i had gotten everything i could out of express...couple types, bunch of time etc. i had a one hour one leg commute on my own airline and i was the only guy to do it (aex)...life was pretty good....i left for airtran and although things are not the same as express, its not too bad....some things are better, some not as good...but the best part is not worrying about " we are taking cal's flying" or "they are taking ours" or "bottom feeder xyz is doing this or that".... i can tell you all i worry about is going to work and doing my job and going home...pretty nice feeling...if was "stuck" at a regional, i would want it to be express because of all the things mentioned before, but guys at the regional level should remember one thing: all of those airlines are contractors for the majors and contracts and rates change....one day you are the top of the heap and the next you are struggling to survive or worse....if you can stay there and put up with that, great...i would rather not...i like the idea that we do our own stuff..you guys will have some of that and i hope it works for you, but you will still have other airlines you are flying for because thats the nature of the business...good luck and i hope you guys make...you are a quality airline with quality people and quality service...

I just applied at Express Jet and live down in Orange County CA. I have a couple of questions for those of you that currently work there that would not mind helping me out.

I keep hearing that guys with fairly high flight time are not getting called, is this even true?

Are both LAX and ONT domaciles junior?

I read that there are rapid upgrades. How rapid? What are the upgrade mins?

Thanks in advance.
