Southwest Air CEO Says Carrier May Consider Adding Smaller Jets
August 29, 2003 01:00 EDT

Southwest Airlines Co., the discount carrier that flies only Boeing 737 jetliners to keep costs low, will consider adding smaller aircraft, Chief Executive Officer James Parker said.

Story.

I read the thread and the article and I couldn't find any mention of SWA getting "RJ's". The article does mention smaller aircraft.

Sorry for responding to the "third thread on the subject" it's the first only one I see on the general bbs.

I can't read the bloomberg page, so I have to ask, does it give any specifics or was the statement a general, "well we might explore the possibility" sort of statement?

I would surmise that SWA would likely squeeze Boeings arm to re-introduce the 737-100 with modern engines. If I were Boeing, I think that I would seriously consider doing so considering the market share Boeing has lost lately.

Third thread today on this subject. Anyone care to try and make it four??
My bad...although I must confess, I don't see the others. Where are they?

Typhoon...just messin' with you a bit. No offense.
None taken...twerp.

Just kidding! :D

don't care what they get as long as they phase out those noisy -200 series planes! anyone know how long SWA plans to keep flying them?

why is it

why is it that a 100 seat 117,000 MGTOW is called a regional, but a 88 seat 90,700 MGTOW DC-9-10 is not?

Man, you know the answer to that. The DC9 is flown by ALPA's "real pilots", while the100 seater is flown by the "lessers" who don't contribute the big dollars to Captain Woerth.

Been wondering that myself. Maybe all NWA's -10's should be at Pinnacle...

One day the restored Delta DC-3 came through DFW. I heard a DCI pilot say over the ramp frequency, "hey, that's a thirty-seat airplane. Shouldn't we be flying that?" :D

Hey, he may not be wrong. The new and improved DALPAscope clause is going to limit DCI to 34-seats, so the -3 may well become the wave of the future.

I tried to find a link to a larger article but I didn't see one.

I thought Southwest, was a regional. It's not like you can book a trip on them to Africa, Asia or Europe.

Less than Twelve-Five?

Maybe it'll be so small it won't require a type. That'd suit me fine.

Call me a cheapskate.

Hey, those are all "regions." If you want to get picky, American and United are regionals. So is NASA.

(Has anyone figured out that "regional airline" is kind of a dumb phrase? It's like saying "waterborne boat.")

anyone thought of maybe B737-600? Doesn't deviate from a single-type mentality and carries less people than the -200.
