It picked up that nickname during a LOOOONNNNGGGG thread (1,000+ posts), called "Legacy Bashfest - Bring It On", started by a Legacy pilot, to discuss the relative merits of the Legacy, after a few people made some disparaging comments regarding the Legacy on another thread. It wasn't pretty, and required a few public apologies (kudos to those offering them).

I heard of it as long ago as Jan, 2001 by Continental Express pilots.
