I was wondering if anybody had any info on Westwind School of Aeronautics. Any info would be helpful. Do all the students get jobs as a CFI as they claim? Do the students move on to the regionals at around 1200 hours like they claim?
I am a student at Westwind and as soon as I am done with my CFII they will hire me. They are very good about keeping there promises but just like anywhere you go there will be things that you may not like but that is something you will get anywhere. A few of our instructors have recently left to go fly corporate jets after getting about 1500hrs. I think it would be in your best interest to check out as many schools as you can dont go with the first one you find.
Yeah I went to westwind, They tell everyone they will get a job and spend the rest of the time trying to figure out how to get rid of you. They will say anything to get you in the door. My instructor flew me three times over the amount quoted. The adminstration doesnt care. Its how to get money and not the quality of the instruction they care about. I went to another school that wasnt that bad. If its too good to be true it probably is. Besides they have all those fancy advertisments to pay for.
Your best bet is to go to an fbo and find a good instructor then just get to know people at the school. Its bad everywhere. You may as well not pay through the nose to get their.
OK, first of all, it’s not the school or the instructor that makes the pilot, it’s the pilot that makes the pilot. Just like any and every other school out there, your only going to get out of it what you put into it. Sure your going find one or two less than average instructors there, but they have multiple others that are exceptional. So if this is a concern to you, do your homework, go there (or wherever you decide to go) a few days early and talk to people, meet some of the instructors and find one that you like. I know undoubtedly that the director over there, Jerry Dilk, will bend over backwards for you.
Second of all, the whole getting on with a regional at 1200 thing has nothing to do with westwind. It has to do with the airline industry and you. They can show you the door, but you have to be tenacious enough to do what it takes to go through it.
