To me it seems there's plenty flying available. They just offered premium. I got off IOE last week and was given 80+hrs for March(with long HHH, MYR overnights too!). I know of one classmate who blocked 70+ in Feb including IOE, and another who was given 60+ for March. The lines keep increasing each month....

They give newbies a green line right out of training. (second time I'm telling you this). It's to help you consolidate. THAT is why you are making 80 hours this month. Next month, you'll be flying one roundtrip every two and a half weeks.

And NO, premium pay JUST went out with the new contract. What you're talking about are the 5 days or so at the end of the month where they are offering 150% to pick up trips. That's for just a few days.

Standard premium pay is over.

I would say if you like living in ATL then sit it out. My first year was 11 months of reserve and less than 400 hours. I'd be a nice break to go back to that now.

Not quite. UNDERBLOCk went away when ASA inked the new contract. Premium (150% of of standard pay) is still in effect for junior mans and pickups like that.

hahaha no such thing.

Yeah man, I'd be depressed living in your area too. If you want to stick around College Park, go move over by Rugby Ave. At least you can get trashed at the Brake Pad and crawl home whenever you want.

Hey Pos'nhold:

Man, do NOT complain. Listen to everybody here and be lucky you have an airline job. And you better start liking it since almost everyone else is slowing or stopped hiring and age 65. My god man, who do you think you are. I'd take info from the G.O. with a grain of salt. As far as seniority, man LOTS of carriers go by age...always have and always will. Get used to it. AND being the youngest at a major/legacy, you WILL be hazed...a lot. If you don't like it...TOO BAD.

Just kick back and relax man. The ATR, when I was there, was the party barge. About every other trip one of the girls would show their ta tas. (i miss helen back's)

Enjoy your time there at ASA. The more time you have the more respect you'll have from you peers when you finally move up and out. NONE of us, and including my old fellow ASA captains, could stand these 300hr wonders with no crew/piloting maturity. Drove me nuts listening to some puke compaining about reserve or pay when he's been there for only 6 months. Brother, DON'T be that tool.

In the mean time, get yourself a porn decorating kit. There are 19 locations to store porn on the ATR. Have fun and time will roll on by.

I've got the same issue. I don't live in College Park, which helps. I spend all my money to live a little north of the airport.

They might add a few lines in April. If this is the case, I'll hold a line soon. Otherwise, I get paid to sit on my ass all day. Whatever.

I would also be depressed living in Riverdale. Move up to Vinings/Syrmna/North Atlanta maing. And cheer up! It could be worse. My indoc instructor was on reserve for 3 years at ASA....

Cry me a river. You do what you can afford to do, maybe thats not the same as what everyone else is doing. We all knew when we went to work for an airline what we would be paid. Did you save any money before you started here? Could you afford to take the job at the time? Reserve isn't so bad. Pay your dues here or somewhere else.

Not to pile on you too much here, but if you are a current new-hire, you just got a significant contractual raise over what new-hires made last year. If they, including myself, could and did make it on $19.02 an hour, you certainly should be able to at the new first year rate.
Also, you should consider the relative seniority of the ATR versus other a/c. The fo list moves faster on the ATR than either of the jets, and I would speculate, faster than most of the other regional options out there. (This is courtesy of the narrow-minded, short-sighted, shiny-jet-syndrome suffering ilk like the fab five [T squared, anyone?].) If you can't tolerate the progression of the ATR at ASA, what makes you think you can live with the progression anywhere else?
Yes, I agree, it's not cool that the powers at be have decided to keep us on the ATR, or any other airplane that we have the seniority to hold, against our will. However, it's not the end of the world, and, in my not-so-humble opinion, not a bad place to weather the current events unfolding in our profession.

You're right, it's not a bad place to weather the storm. I was just trying to figure out what the situation was like at other carriers because I was considering a side step.

I don't care being on reserve. I really just thought it was very much against the norm to fly 5-10 hours a month on reserve.

I'm not really that close to holding a line yet, either. Haven't been here long long. Most of what I was concerned about was being on reserve until December. Thought maybe a sidestep would make logical sense.

Then why did you start this thread? You could have just asked someone at work these questions.
