What matters is that the passengers are safe, and that this was filmed and posted on the internet for our enjoyment.

Good Flying Skills

WOW and to think that is supposed to be a Professional Pilot. The pilot forgot all about Martha Kings Famous Video. Rule #1 = The key to a good landing is to TRY and fly a stabilized approach.

Or was he was trying to escape the thought of Martha seducing him?

One of the best landings I've ever seen. (Judgment)

If the crosswinds in Lisbon are as bad as they get in the Azores, then all I can say is good on you mate! Looks like at least a 50 knot crosswind to me.

I saw the movie before.. Winds at the time where 270 @ 27 G 39..

Say what you want about the "reported" crosswind. From the beginning of the flick you can tell that the crab angle is extreme. Appears that the pilot was never able to find the right combination of rudder/aileron/experience to get it pointed down the runway for the touchdown. From the reflection on the runway it looks like some adverse weather was passing through. As the airplane gets slow you can notice the rolling tendency. I suspect the pilot was looking out his left window at the runway on the approach. A crosswind can be extreme enough to cause a wingtip stike when the proper amount of aileron is input to offset the rudder being used. Looks like the pilot took the only out he had - with the exception of diverting before the approach. Not pretty but I would not rush to laugh at this pilot who lived to fly another day.

Looks like there toward the end he forgot he was flying an Airbus, and got into roll-axis pilot induced oscillations. At least thats what it looks like, going on what I've read about the Airbus fly-by-wire system.

At least he went around and didn't try to force a bad landing.

I like your screen name Copy Dat!!

Easy to tell who you work for and WHERE you work out of

"no changes"

Saw this in another thread about a week ago. Someone there said the winds were 40-50 and this was the last attempted landing before the airport shut down due to WX.

Let's see if I can give any more clues as to where I work besides "copydat"
1) Meet and Assist is on the way
2) Entire crew call scheduling
3) Join on the left and hold at the center roadway
4) EDCT of 2030Z (instead of 1800Z on time)
5) Join outside of -----(a place that sounds like a train should be arriving)
6) Hello ---- (goes with "Lightyear")
7) We are phyilisophically opposed to ________ etc.
8) ACARS is bought and paid for
9) If we are not the busiest then dad blame it we will for shure have the tallest
10) Our new coffee is more robust with a fuller flavor that passengers enjoy. And by the way, did we mention that it is half the cost.

Help me guys I am digging here!

Winner gets a beautiful box of two vacuum wrapped cookies. The box is custom designed and looks wonderful in any aviation colection. Shredded memos are included in box and add a nice seasonal touch.

Better than crashing. I was callin go around and he went around. Some stupid pilots would conitnue with the landing and crash. And there ARE stupid pilots.....aren't there?

Hey EDUC8-or, i'm assuming your a SIU grad or attending student which I am too (grad that is). Go saluki's!! B-Ball team is doin good again. Graduated in 02' and just got out of the ole instruction gig.

"Phyilisophically?"

Can I have one guess? You work for a company that hates commuters, callsign rhymes with "Sandler?"

"Phyilisophy"

Yeah, haven't you heard of it? Phyilisophy? Like, Phyillis, and -soph when put together means, "knowledge of Phyillis."

But we should give the guy a break, you know, he could've written "phallusophically."

And, oh yeah, good job on the go around. Never judge another pilot until you've been in his seat but god, why'd he take about 4000 feet down the runway to try to massage that sucker on the ground?

'Taint worth it.
