Anyone remember Airport, Airport '75 and I think there was even a thrid one called Airport 1980?

In the original, A mad man brings a bomb in a suitcase on the plane and detonates it in the forward lavoratory (B707). They have to land in really bad weather in Chicago or something - bottom line they land OK and live - too bad

Airport '75 was a 747 that had a mid-air with a Cessna. The Cessna hits the 74 on the front FO's side. Captain/FO and Engineer all killed. Stewardess has to fly plane until the military sends a F-16 or something and somehow they manage to get a military person on board through the gaping hole in the side of the plane. Milatary boy saves the day.

The last Airport, I think a terrorist takes over, they run out of fuel (I think it was a 76 or Airbus of some type). Pilot is forced to land in the ocean. The plane sinks about 300 feet below the water and somehow the plane doesn't fill up with water right away and the last hour of the movie is in the plane at the bottom of the ocean slowly taking on water. Of course coast card shows up, uses air bags to lift the plane and everyone is saved.

Hi all,

Actually, the original Airport was surprisingly accurate for an aviation flick. Filmed on location in MSP, if I recall, at the old Braniff gates. Lots of airport employees were extras.

More so than the story, the view of airline travel/society back in the 60s is pretty cool. A pleasant trip in the way-back machine.

Imagine helpful, knowledgeble and polite employees and well dressed passengers, rather than passengers dressed in short shorts and flip flops, while their unattended kids grind cheerios into the carpet.

Besides, Dean Martin was a scream as the sterotypical cheating d&%k of an airline pilot. Jackie Bissett is a hottie in any decade. Burt Lancaster's straight faced delivery of camp dialog should be required viewing for any acting class.

I agree that Airport 75, 77 and 79 are pure drek. I want work for the airline where I can go from mechanic to Concorde captain in 10 years.

Best,
Nu

Speaking of good aviation references in movies, I laugh every time I see So I Married an Axe Murderer, and Stephen Wright is flying. "I've never flown at night before...."

Hotties?

How about the co-pilot in AIRPLANE !

Which was the one about the terrorists who steal a stealth fighter (F-117) from inside a flying C-5...and our hero has to stop them in another '117? Was that Active Stealth?

All I remember is the baddies sneaking into the C-5 through the refueling probe of a KC-10. (Where the hell was the technical advisor?)
