Just wondering who feels what major airport has the worst ATC facility out there with regards to controllers/delays/other things!

My vote goes to PHL! They are not only rude controllers, wait until one cloud pops up over the airport and the ground delay program starts, let alone SWAP!

this has to hurt SW's ontime/turnaround time there!

LOL...... Every time I hear someone ask about the worst atc facility, PHL is the first one that pops into my head.........

I hope SWA knows something that I don't know.

I flew out of there for years, and between the Severe WORK Avoidance Procedures and outright ineptness, I've spent a lot of time burning fuel not going anywhere.

[rant]I can't believe that we are still using SWAP..... some nimrod in DC, watching weather radar on a TV with airways superimposed on them sees a storm on J-xxx, and immediately stops and reroutes any departures that are filed on J-xxx. After waiting hours for the new routing, which takes you 500 miles out of your way for no reason, you take off, and head 180 degrees the wrong way. Taking a look out the window, you see that the ORIGINAL routing is clear as a bell, and inquire to the center controller if you can go direct. Invariably, they say sure, why not, and you carry thousands of extra pounds of fuel to your destination several hours late.

If it happened once in a while, I could accept it, but for years, every time there is a cb between MDW and BNA, and we are going to FL, the reroute is Moline, Kirksville, Braymer, then thye turn you towards somewhere like LIT. I have recieved this clearance, after considerable delay, more times than I can count, and have YET to make it to MZV before turning towards my destination.

It would be nice if the center controllers were put back in charge, rather than some EEOC guy in DC, who hasn't got a clue. Then, all the southbounds take off 15 miles in trail, and they all deviate the same way around the weather in question. It worked 1000 X better than this automatic reroute if it's raining enroute, SWAP nonsense. There were times when it didn't work, but the old way worked way more often than the SWAP nonsense.[/rant]

PHL even without SWAP!

CVG in second, one airplane in one airplane out, and repeat, over and over, etc.

I don't know about the worst, but the MIA center controllers are always a Jackass. They change your route 60 times, all of which is completely different from what you get on the ground in FLL.

This one time, I filed via the gulf route to New Orleans, which was the ONLY way I could possibly go because there were several lines of storms inland, covering the panhandle of FL. After filing this way, I go and receive my clearance, which they say is "xxx departure then as filed." So far so good. I then take off, fly the departure as normally. The next thing you know, these bastards tell me the route you filed is no good, and they issue me a new clearance right into the lines of t-storms. I then tell them that I am unable to accept that routing due to weather, and they say that is the only route they can give me, sorry.

You know, it wouldn't be as bad if they would just give me that in the clearance ON THE GROUND, that way I can cancel the flight or work something else out but no, they have to make things complicated by changing it 100 times.

It seems to be like that every time I am down in the southern part of FL. But they need to get their act together.

It's pretty seldom that you'll get anything direct across the Gulf when the warning areas are hot. The best you can usually hope for is to cut the corner before SZW and go to HEVVN, or DEFUN, depending on which way you are going.

My vote for "Terminal area incompetence in the face of wx" goes to Memphis (from a situation about 4 years ago, hope they've improved, but I still remember it all too well) and a recent ground controller a-hole in BWI that is well on his way to setting pilot-controller relations back 20 years.

Otherwise, no real gripes. Highest marks to ATL and honorable mention to any LGA guys during single-runway operations.

Havnt had any real problems in MIA myself, but I have heard MIA center jump peoples a$$ before.

Anybody ever talk to "mechanical man" at MIA App? Cracks me up everytime.
If you ask him to repeat himself, he answers back in normal tone, then goes right back to it. Sounds like an ATIS.

1) has to be PHL-

2) CYYZ is a close second - when deicing is in progress and wx is down, watch out....
