I hope they don't make too many changes to the old TWA terminal. That place is a work of art.

The Sarrin building and one of the tubes have been declared a historical landmark and will not be touched. The terminal will go behind the building with all access roads running behind it as well. It's now up to the Historical Society to determine what they are going to do with the building. Rumor has it that it will be turned into a museum or maybe a hotel.

The world's largest terminal, by square footage, is under construction right here in the good old USA. John F. Kennedy Airport will lay claim to the title when Terminal 5 construction is complete. JetBlue Airways will occupy the facility.

Since, according to the USA today, JBLU is already starting to pay for this new terminal, this may explain the forecast loss in 2006.

It may pay off handsomely, but not until 2009.

Maybe this will be but one of the needed nails in their coffin! No offense to the pilots that work there but then most of you can all go to work for the real airlines that will fill the void.

No offense...yeah right. You're a complete jacka$$$....no offense of course.

According to a Daily News article earlier this week AA's new terminal will have 36 gates (with room to expand to more gates) compared to JBLU's 26 gates....I guess the real question here is who is paying the heating and air conditioning bill on that new "larger" JBLU terminal.

Why do you wish all the CrewMembers of JetBlue Airways to lose their jobs through the failure of our company? The crewmembers at JetBlue work very hard every day trying to build futures for themselves, their families and the next generation of JetBlue CrewMember. It is not JetBlue's fault other airlines, better known as businesses, are not prospering.

You need to look internally (MANAGEMENT and LABOR) to BLAME the proper entity for the lack of prosperity within your company and this industry. Look at other threads on this forum today discussing the salaries and corruption of the people you pay to collectively bargain on your behalf and you will see the other entity bringing down this industry. The one thing all parties bringing down this industry have in common is GREED.

If the lagacy carrier provided a quality product for the American consumer the business environment would have never supported airlines like JetBlue gaining market share. Obviously, the traveling public in NYC needed affordable airfare which the legacies didn't provide allowing JetBlue to grow its own customer base out of NYC.

If you want JetBlue to fail so you can prosper I suggest you work very hard to build the financial security of whatever airline you fly for. I wish you the best and I hope you have a great life.

Its my understanding that PANYNJ is paying for the project. JetBlue is the managing coordinator.

I worked for one of your so-called "real airlines", got set back like you'll hopefully never know. Now I do work at a real airline, a really great one!

What a dickhead! He probably got tuned down by JetBlue, the reason for all the animosity?

Well I wonder when they will start paying their rent there...maybe they got a sweetheart deal just like with all the airbii...just a thought.

The taxpayers will end up footing the bill in the end.

Dat's pretty classy of da Blue Dudes to be keepin some history. Good luck, JetBlue Dudes! You cats got a pretty neat thing goin on up in the N Y C and dem peeps love you up there, so dats cool.

Just pleeeeze leave some PAX for da Tranny!!!

Jaxgus and 3BCat, thanks for the polite responses to my admittedly not so nice post. I am just very angry at what has come about from the LCC craze of the past 5 years. Jax, I do not wish the JB crew members to lose their jobs. I merely want us all to have what we had the potential to have until 5 years ago. I know the JB people work very hard as do the SWA and Critter people as well, and thats my point!!! We all shouldn't have to work 2x as hard and 2x as long as what our predecessors did for half the pay.

The traveling public of NYC HAD affordable fares. What they have today is a complete ripoff from a business standpoint. The prices are just too low. People are flying for pennies on the backs of the hardworking people at the LCC's. And you know what? If prices were raised by 10%, the people would still fly in the same numbers as they do currently. And 10% raises in prices would have just about everyone earning profits.

And the internet has ruined profits as well. There is no brand loyalty anymore. You pick a city paring and the lowest prices pop up. These websites should be banned and people should be forced to buy from the airlines directly or from a travel agent like in years past.

The SWA people continually brag about being the highest paid in the industry...WHAT!!!!??? Their captains are earning about the same as what United or Delta 737 FO's could be making while working less with greater benefits and retirement if their contracts were not pillaged. People say the wages were not sustainable..thats crap! People pay the prices that are charged. Look at the astronomical home prices these days, yet people are buying them like they are going out of style...why? Because they can!

Kockjockey... if you are so smart about pricing and how to get more people to fly for more than why don't you go and fly or run the new virgin america???? It's not that easy... just keep trowing that gear on your rj and observe the system a few years longer.

What makes you think I throw gear on an RJ? Perhaps it is you who should start "observing" things a little better.

Pipejockey,

You and I both know there are lots of things not right in today's world. Pilot pay is probably not the most important, but to you and me, it matters.

There is a lot of controversy about fares and traffic. Some people will fly, no matter the cost. Others will not. For leisure flyers using discretionary income, having to pony up even a few extra bucks, could be the proverbial straw, and they will not fly.

All carriers face the tough choice of ticket price vs. load factor. There is excess capacity in many markets, and savvy consumers know how to exploit the market using the internet. Brand loyalty does exist, but its harder to keep it than it is to establish.

I think the pay in our industry will rationalize, but for some, it may be too little, too late.

rant continuance.....

kckjockey....

I've realized that you are clueless... the internet is here... LCC's are here... the dotcom bust has happend... business travelers are not coming back to pay the last minute walk up fares for first and business class... mom and pop and everyone want 99 dollar round trip fares from wichita to maui... deregulation happend... without it we'd probably not be flying planes since there would be much less service at much higher fares resulting in much fewer passengers being able to afford flying... we live in a free market democracy and the airline industry is just going through it's final stages of deregulation. The LCC's are not new. SWA has been around since the 80's. Other's have come and gone... other major airlines have tried to start airlines w/in airlines... like CAL lite, Metro Jet, United Shuttle, Delta Shuttle, Delta Song (going away), Value Jet (Now AirTran), ATA, the many Frontier's, and the current successful one... so you think the internet and JetBlue have brought down the industry???? You Sir are an idiot for thinking and blabbing about it that way... keep moving that gear handle and do some reading... maybe someday you will recieve total conciousness.... like me. So I've got that going for me.... which is nice!

PS- sorry meat jockey... i stand corrected. Go plumb your 72 then... and if you are on the boeing then you are flying boxes so why should you give a flying F$ck about what the people movers are doing???? Go post on the cargo board!

Well in the same light as my last post about observing, apparently you are the one that should get a clue, as SWA has been around since about 1971, not the 80's as you say. And deregulation happened in 1978. That is almost 30 years ago in case you do not have the intellect to add. The industry is far past the growing pains of deregulation.

Bestpilot....

You really make me laugh... you definitly have a way w/ words... say hi to catfish for me...

Not too bad

$875M total construction cost, with Jetblue fronting $80M. 30 yr lease used as a payback of total project. My guess is the $80M is prorated over the 3yr construction period. NYC better hope they stick around that long.;)

:pimp:

Meatjockey...

I can count dip$hit... and if you really understood what's going on then you would realize what's happening is the end game of deregulation... the legacies are changing decades long business plans that were built and realized through years of regulation... and doing it virtually overnight by the chapter 11 process... now please just go away....

Duude, like thanks for servin and stuff! Catfish is da man!! Cool cat, mo debinitly!

All the talk about LCC's ruining the airline industry is truly facinating and comical. Is it due to cheap fares cheap or superior customer service an LCC provides? Far too long has the business traveler, the "bread and butter" traveler, been raped by all carriers for last minute fare purchases.
Having any sort of common sense, logic or a 6th grade education one could deduce these pricing strategies cause friction with the traveling public and in a capitalistic society things would ultimately change.
