Any World guys around with any current info on the company? I had a buddy who left about a year ago for UPS and said he loved it there and would have considered it a career job if UPS hadn't happened. I have a good job making ok money but will slice my wrists with the checklist if I have to fly to nowheresville again. What's the outlook with the new parent company? Are you guys going to expand, shrink, be stagnant? QOL still good? Are you even hiring? I have always wanted to do this type of flying so trying to do some research. I know there are other posts, but trying to get up to date info. Thanks

I'm certainly no World expert as I just finished my IOE. But am so far impressed with everything. They seem to really try to take care of the crews. We have a new hire class going through right now that their Sim training got pushed back because of a Instructor shortage. But management plans to put them on full pay based on their original Sim completion dates instead of their new Sim completion dates which is about two weeks later. That says a lot about making people want to stay. Most guys I met flying the line look at this place as their last stop since the payscales here are on par with most of the majors (Up until the 10 year point).

They have classes starting again in early March (I think they are already full) and I firmly believe there will be more new hire classes to follow.

Most of the lines are 14-18 days long all in a row (most lines are 14-15 days, only some are 18). Thats a long time to be on the road but comparing to other ACMI outfits this is norm to above norm.

It's a nice mix of both pax and cargo flying, nice hotels everywhere, scheduling is doing a great job (In my limited experience) of supporting the crews properly with hotels and transportation.

Having a union makes all the difference. We have duty day limitations and crew rest limitations that are well above the FAA mandated minimums.

Health benefits are excellent and your out of pocket expense for health care is less than half what I've seen at other outfits I worked at. (I pay $124 a month for me and my family under the best plan they have).

There are a lot of threads about World, I suggest you read those too.

Good luck and I hope you get what your looking for! I am also a huge big red fan. Maybe now with Osborne back in the game we might get some better coaching staff!

Thanks for your input. I have read all I can find on World but wanted to get the latest and greatest so thought I would throw this out there and see what came up. I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I have always heard World was one of the top companies and really hope it continues.
I'm curious as to what you base your opinion of continued hiring on? Are there more aircraft coming on line? Are people leaving? What does the future hold with the new company? I know obviously the future is a crap shoot but what do the "old timers" seem to think?
Again, thanks for your input. Enjoy the new job and I agree with you whole heartedly. Thank goodness Osborne is running the show again. They should have hired Pellini the first time. The West Coast offense in Nebraska...come on now!!

The only people that are leaving are the Jr. young MD-11 guys that are getting hired by FEDEX or UPS.

As far as the future of the company...HAHAHA. The Senior guys that I have talked to about this seem to think we might see some future integration with ATA and North American. We are already starting to see integration as far as tech stops, hotels and travel. I know GAL is very happy with World as we made a nice profit in the last couple of years and this continues.

Your very welcome. If you think of any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. Go big red!

Kind of a mixed bag of SO's and PFE's. I don't think they plan to hire too many more PFE's. Maybe 2 to4 more, but thats just a guess.

You thinking about leaving SAI?

I am not leaving where I am, just getting some info for a couple of buddies retiring from the military this year. I am not at SAI.

Tower: Connie, you guys ok?

Connie XXX: yep!

If it's not too much trouble, would you guys mind posting what a typical line looks like just to get an idea...thanks.

I really hope the companies stay separate. It would be such a mess to merge the pilot groups. I also heard that it is an advantage to stay separate because of the "distribution" of AMC contracts.
